What about the Orval Roberts dogs, I know there used to be good bit of them used for hogs here in the south, have any of you used them in bear or cat....I just got a pup ( well a yr or so old) off Mr. Orval's last stud he owned and a gyp of his grandsons .

Orval had dogs that went to Lester Mundy in Col. for lion hunting & they did well. He has also had them in the hands of bear hunters. Orville had good dogs. Goose, Who is the sire of your pup? I remember the Jed dog he had but do not know what he had when he passed away.

Beacoups Mid night I think is his registered name, he's called midnight, Tommy Whitten who was one of Orval's good friends and neighbor has him now, he's pretty old now and is retired due to arthritis. Tommy and Orval's grandson are about the only two who are carrying on Orval's line of dogs from best I can gather.

Mr. Mike I could be wrong but I think jed had a brother name bud and midnight is out of bud, or he could've been out of Jed, it's been a good while since I talked to Tommy about them dogs. I remember hearing Jed brought up a time or two amidst discussions of breedings.

Met a man at the hospital in centerville ms, can't remember his name. He lives about 2 miles north of centerville on macedonia rd. Right hand side. He said he got most of Orval Roberts dogs when he passed away. Would be easy to find, stop and ask anyone in that area. Most every young boy hunts hogs.

It's not the darkens, I know them. This boy lives about 400 yards north of Darren's place on the left across from cemetary. If you will go to the feed store in centerville and tell them what you are looking far, someone will probably have it or know some one that does. Those boys around there are the real deal if you want to catch hogs. If you want to discuss breeds, I'm not to sure that would be the place. Most of the dogs I see are mixed up cur/with something else, but they most always have hogs in the truck. Looks like they know what worked on that particular hunt.

Hunted with Buck & Bucky Darden 30 years or so ago. They just had curs then. They got into Plotts, some Julys & anything that would stick on a running hog later. lol We used to go up & hunt with Orval before he had Plotts. Mike Fradella & I would go up there with our young plots & train. Orval had a lot of hogs back then. He did have two good cur dogs back then. I want to say their names were kate & Sadie.

The guy might have bought some of them but he didn't get most of them, tommy Whitten is a personal friend and is very close with Orval's grandson Jerryd their the two who got the majority of what he had. Not saying he doesn't have any but right after Orval died his dogs were "popping up" all over the place. I never got the privilege to hunt with Orval, i became friends with Tommy not long after he had passed away.

Has anybody on here ever seen Timber hunt or know someone who hunted with him? Terry Liebe (now dead) got me started hunting. He had seen that dog hunt and claimed he was nothing special. He hunted in Washington with guys like Glen Buchanan, Ray and Kenny Jones, Ed Watkins. He and his hunting buddies did not like Demoss probably more like hated him and accused him of stealing dogs etc.

I currently have a grade Plott that is an alright dog nothing special. I had a Plott I got from Kenny Jones before he died that was doing real good but got killed by wolves. A friend of mine had a Bear Path Plott at one time, that was a real nice cold nosed cat dog.

I have talked with several guys that hunted with timber and said he was an extra special bear dog . I have cascade blood in my dogs and they are the real deal . I would say if you hated someone it's easy to hate things attached to him . the only bad I have ever heard bad about timber was from guys that didn't like Dee .

Ya most people have a hard time seeing past personal animosity. Isn't he the dog that was sold in the 70s for $20,000.00 or was that a different dog that I am thinking of. A lot of times I wish I would've wrote down stuff that was told to me by now dead people rather than try remembering it.
