Difference in Western hounds and Eastern hounds....

Can someone explain to me the difference in hunting styles that are noticed in hounds who were bred and developed for their home range? I may have misread it, but I thought I read on here not to long ago where someone was describing the differences in the two. I'm only familiar with hounds here in the southeastern part of the country.

hounds out west have to be able to trail from shaded thick brush to hot sunny open hill sides and can change in elevation up to 1000 feet or more all in one race. Yes we have thick brush very steep high mountains big rock cliffs and bluffs. What we dont have is swamps . well we have small ones that hold coon and dogs get them treed or caught. I have had guys come out west from NC and wisc and there dogs wouldnt strike a older track let alone move it. They couldnt figure out why or what was going on with there dogs. And these guys really do have good dogs and are respected hound guys in there parts. I have traveled around and hunted bear coon and bobcat in midwest and found that my dogs adapt pretty well to the hills and flat land and moist brushy conditions . they as a whole didnt shine in the swamps. That is my experience . we have a huge variety of different conditions out here and the dogs from midwest to east coast adapt well after some time.

There's probably not a lot of difference in some dogs as they get shipped back and forth a lot. But in strains really developed in different areas that's when you notice the variation. But in order to really answer it you'd have to ask about specific families. In general a hounds a hound. Its the specifics that decide what kind of hound it is. I have a friend who has hunted with me quite a lot. He was on a trip and came across a hound he felt was a good deal. Well he described over the phone then when he got home he brought it out. As he is a good guy I was able to ask him honestly the first thing that came to mind. "Where's the dog you TOLD me about???" We each see with our own eyes .

If you live in Florida and have dogs that hunt and tree good there and you take a job and move to chama New Mexico, let the dogs get acclimated to that sea level and theywill hunt and tree just like they did in Florida . They will just be treeing different animals than mostly coon.
