HOW MANY OF YOU REMEMBER

Post by coondawg1972 »

HELLO FELLOW COONHUNTERS. MY NAME IS PAUL I'VE BEEN RUNNING HOUNDS ALL OF MY ADULT LIFE. GAVE IT UP ABOUT TWO YEARS AGO UNTILL THIS JAN, 2008. I STARTED PUTTING ME A PACK BACK TOGETHIER WITH A WHOLE LOT OF GONNA BEES AND AND A FEW SHOULD HAVE BEENS. ITS TOOK ME THREE MONTHS TO START TREEING COONS IN THE WILD BUT JUST WONDER IF YOU ALL REMEMBER WHEN YOU STARTED HUNTING AND TRAINING HOUNDS. I TELL YOU I HAD FORGOTEN THE JOY OF JUST STARTING OUT WITH A YOUNG PACK AND WATCHING THEM GROW AND CHANGE INTO COONHOUNDS. IT HAS BEEN AN AMAZING 5 MONTHS. I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE WHAT THEY WILL BE IN A YEAR.

Shoot I started over every few yrs do too deaths or bord cause they finished out and let em go and started over .Training pups from scratch and not with help from other dogs is how I hunt and your right a young dog or dogs and a yr or 2 hunting em is quite a rush and a true experience and each time ya do it ya gain by its experiences and add new understandings too.

brisco,

i hear ya but i can't quit if you find that 12 step program let me no. tuesday night was the frist deer chase. it was interesting how all this training to hunt coon took months and they all are natural deer dogs but when i finally got them off of that long-legged power game we had a mandatory meeting on the risk of running such game. everyone seen it my way after a little personal time at the back of the truck. last night (thursday) was back on track with just a few misses and we got one put up at 2:00 am this morning. i'm running 6 hounds a three year old who had never been turned loose untill jan, 2008 a 2 year old who was in the same shape and a 5 month old, an 8 month old ,a 9 month old, and a 10 month old who missed the deer running program so im sure next week we will have to revisit this topic in the future. i have treed as of last night only 17 coons so far this year but if i keep working them i believe they should be able to tree an old blind, cripple one with out any trouble.

its funny how a fella only remembers the cool stuff, and selectively doesn't think about how much shoe leather goes into a dog,i always forget between starting one and finishing one, anyway good luck
