An Author with a nice complement

Post by david »

barksalot wrote:... I am humbled in the presence of people ...that contribute to the bobcat forum. Just as the bobcat is an elusive and different animal, it seems as if the people and dogs that pursue them operate on a different level. I find myself standing on tip toes to keep my head above water in this company, but the act of learning has always been the most exciting part of life.
Bayne

So Bayne Koonts wrote this great book called "My Life With Hounds and Curs"

And while I am reading this book I find my self laughing and forming pictures and films in my mind; pictures that sometimes run before me as I drive. They make me smile. They make me feel happy and proud to be someone who loves to hunt with tree dogs like Bayne...who I somehow feel is my Freind.

Then he breaks into the philosophical and I am wondering how does a man become so articulate in his thoughts and language. I am wondering what he did for a living and it must have been a doctor or something beyond me.

Then he breaks into scent theory and says something so clear and strong. I have never thought of it, I have never heard it before, but it makes such perfect sense, I am wondering why and how I missed that thought. Now I am wondering if he was a scientist.

And he was not a bobcat hunter through those years since 1943, yet so many of the conclusions he comes to about the desireable traits in a dog are those of many bobcat hunters I have known.

And now he makes the statement above about trying to keep his head above water in the bobcat section. Wow, what a humble man, and what a tremendous compliment to the people who post here in the bobcat section.

You guys are appreciated more than you know.

I asked Bayne (barksalot) if I could post his information so you guys can add a little bit of joy and fun to your lives by getting this book in the mail and leaving your world for a little while (or entering it, as the case may be).

I really enjoyed the book too. Yep Chapter 8 really has me thinking. Glad you posted or I'd have never heard of his book.

Good little book he had the best explaination that I have heard as to when bobcats are scared the dogs can not smell them sometimes. Bayne I have never owned a Red Tick but would sure like to had one that could move a track your old female did. Thanks for sharing your experiences. Dewey

I have often thought on a moving cat that isnt jumped yet it is like the scenting conditions aren't there sometimes always thought it is like they keep there scent turned down or off tell you get them on a hard jump. Thought I was crazy though and newer to catching the game.
