When California lost there bear hunting it was not because of lack of effort by the California Hound Association in my opinion. The California Association organized hundreds of hound hunters to show up in Sacramento to testify.

Every state should have a Hound Association to defend hound hunting. These field trials are the main source of fund raising for most hound associations. I attend these field trials on a regular basis, currently out of 10 dogs I have only one that I can depend on running a field trial drag and this dog is less than a year old. The main reason I like to go to these field trials is to meet other hound hunters and visit about hunting. I won half the pot on the $1,000.00 race one year and that dog never ran another drag again. Young dogs generally do better than older dogs on these "fake" races.

As a board member of the Association and a frequent judge I must've not figured out the rigged process as I sure don't win many trophies. By the way I never took a trophy home, when I win a trophy I donate it back to the club, so it can be used the following year. If I win leashes or collars I keep those.

I attended the Cranbrook field trial over the weekend where hundreds of people showed up and I met a lot of serious hound hunters. Quite a few people show up at these field trials with no dogs, just to BS. How else can you get a bunch of hound guys together except through field trials.

Hound hunters from British Columbia, Alberta, Wyoming, and Idaho show up at the Montana field trials. A lot of the MT houndsmen that attend the field trials travel to UT, Idaho, & BC to run bears.

Andy, for somebody like you promoting a line of dogs, you should attend too. There is no other place you can meet as many houndsmen in one location then at a field trial.

The $1,000.00 bear blowout race is a drag up to 5 miles long and usually over 50 dogs are turned loose for a $25.00 entry per dog, one year only 3 dogs out of 50 made it to the tree.

Any hound man who knows shit knows field trials are not a judge of a big game hound. They are as Duane said, a fund raising event for groups that are try to help maintain our way of life and a way to get together with otherwise non social people by nature. Aside from that, I try to stick to running my dogs and not my mouth.

I should clarify I have no objection to people taking home trophies they are made for the winners. A lot of hunters bring there families to these events and kids especially enjoy it when one of there dogs wins a trophy. As a single guy with no kids and a house to small to display all my mounts I don't need trophies to add to my clutter.

Andy, do you want it to be a cat race because half those topper dogs are bear whipped straight out of your puppy mill? Lol jk.
I went to one a few years ago here in washington and enjoyed the shit out of it. Took a day off from the real hunts and making up bullshit to myself to go check out everyone's dogs. My best dog tied for 3rd in the bear race. And it wasn't to the tree! Right back to the truck with about 30 other dogs lol. Damn coonhunters showing my bear whipped dogs how shits done lol. I'd go again if they still had it around.

Good job Montanahoundsmen. I've heard it is a well run field trial.
Post this ad where ever you want on this site. I'm sure no self respecting houndmen will object. It is for a good cause, after all.

We all know that field trials are a joke as far as drags and all that (well most of us) . but it is for a good cause and the money earned goes to benefit us houndsmen. I take my pups to them and enter them in every event and as much as you all want to say it's bad for them I disagree . it's no worse than them sitting on the chain or in the kennels at home . I am not there to win trophies just to have a good time and support us houndsmen . good luck Montana and hope it's a fun time and great turn out .
Hunt hard cull hard !
