When/What is Your hunting season dates

Post by Buddyw »

Let's list out everyone Hunting seasons with dogs.

Pursuit season
Kill season

For Bear and Cats.

I'm trying to figure out some way of doing a BigGame Hunt for Fun. But I would want to do it when as many folks In many states could participate.

I also think that we would have to separate Bear Hunters from Cat Hunters, Becasue Bear Hunters would have an advantage in the Summer, and Cat hunters would have the upper hand in the winter.

Here is an example. The Hunt would start on a Saturday, You'd have to Pick up a Saturday Paper that morning before the hunt, and Who ever was able to Catch and Photograph that NewsPaper, and the Animal would win? If it wasn't a bear or cat you would normally Harvest then you just need take a Photo an we would use the Newspaper to Date the image.

Payout to 1st, 2nd..(etc.) $20 Buy in before the Hunt.

We could even do it during a Pursuit season, And I wouldn't want people shooting animals just to try and win.

At least in Oregon Pursuit for Cats start in September.. My thinking is without snow and start it in Sept. Then you'll need both dog power, skill and even some Luck. when do other states Pursuit seasons start.

So you are saying we stay in our own state, take a photo of the Saturday paper and the animal to verify the date. If I have it correct we all are at a disadvantage. It will be very hard to make it fair in all the Western States because of seasons and game to hunt. If we can figure out a way to do it I'm in.

Sounds like a fun deal, I'm in. In Sept. we have no open cat season but then again we can always run a deer or elk.Surely that counts....LOL!

Yea it probably won't be 100% Fair because of all the different states and terrians.. but I don't think you'll ever get that, that's why I personally want a Tough Ass Hunt.. I wouldn't want to do it when people are stacking them up... With any hunting it's still going to take some element of luck. But if we could find a good time that has allot of States seaons that overlap it would give allot of people the chance to participate..

Again personally I would want to do it in the less than ideal Hunting conditions to add that special need to have some kind of Luck.

If I had to Guess.. a Cat Hunt In the Late Summer would be pretty hard hunt. (I'd almost say that it could be days or weeks before someone was able to Post a picture!) but it would take a Cat hunter or allot of Luck to put up a Cat! But He would get to hold the title of a cat hunter..

How do you define the Great Bear hunters? Maybe it's the First to catch two bears (meaning Two Different News papers Sat, and Sunday) or something like that?? To me Bear dogs need to have more stamina and staying power.. The Same dog must be in both the photos.. hell I don't really know You bear hunters would have to figure out how to separate and make things difficult and interesting.

First is to see if #1 we had enough interest
and #2 see if we had enough states that had seasons that allowed pursuit.

As long as it stayed Light and Fun. Could get interesting.

LadyCatHunter.. You'd have some Pretty Stiff competition in the Trash Division.. I've the Coyotes around here are like my Pets, I've almost got them all named ;) .

You must live in the city cause we don't have a daily paper around here, nor do we have a Saturday paper........roflmao!

Ike, To answer you question, no I don't live in the city, Sometimes I wish I did just for High Speed Internet when I have to work on this website.. Anyways.. Well maybe you could just Print the Front Page of the NewYork Times Website then. Or Maybe I could create a Code that I give out the Night before the Hunt and you could just write that down that Number or Code on a piece of Paper. All I'm tring to do with the Paper is make it so People can't just pull up a photo from last year and send that in..... Make sense?

T currence..

I'd really want to do it so that pursuit works also.. that way you would hunt just like normal, If it's pursuit season great.. take a photo and send it in.. If it's Kill season and it's a bear you would normally harvest then you can send in a photo with the dead bear and paper.. If it's Kill season and it's a Sub Par bear that you don't want to shoot.. Then Try and get the Photo of the animal in the tree.. Might have to get creative to get the paper and the bear in the same shot.. But that would be some of the fun.. Hell maybe there would be a Bonus if someone got the Shot on the ground.

LadyCatHunter, Don was talking about having another one of those Fun hunts this year over in Umpqua. we'll try and go to that as well. If he does it as I understand it there will be a Points systme for each animal that you tree.. I think it's a 24 hour hunt or something. X point for each coon, X points for Bobcats. and X points for Other.. You know.. foxes coyotes and other But you have to Tree/catch them. Mostly just a reason to get abunch of people together go out and Hunt during the day and then have a good time around the fire pit.
