Wolf hunting with hounds any body ever do it

I saw a wolf while up hear in armstrong ont. The thing looked like a moose from 300 hundred meters I thought it was a moose how many hounds would you need to run to hunt moose how do you hunt lynx in an area with timber wolf's I'm afraid to turn my dogs on a moose hear after seeing a wolf that big how doe you guys deal with the wolf proplem were you hunt lynx or whatever I heard a guy say they tie a bunch of bright collers ribon on their dogs

I've heard of guys using bells on the collar to help keep the wolves away, but I would start by shooting every one that I saw. I think the MNR will give you info if they know where a pack is hanging out, so other than shooting them, I think you just have to try to avoid them.

Back in the old days wolf hunting with hounds was great sport. But one must remember back then wolves were hunted hard and like today's coyote everyone that stopped and looked back got a bullet. Out on the plains most guys galloped them with coursing hounds mixed with fighters and some even rode into the mix and roped them. Teddy Roosevelt felt this was a grand game.

Most of the guys back then in the north woods and frozen lake country used slow open mouthed hounds and didn't try so much to catch them but got them lined out and moving and then they would station shooters ahead and then knock them over. Most said that super fast hounds that got strung out would usually be killed one by one but if you had a slow steady pack and didn't put down on a group of them you could pick off the singles pretty good.

I think with most of the yuppie hand raised wolves these days that are mostly watched over it would be a losing game as these wolves don't have much fear of man or his dogs.

It will be interesting because before long those wolves will be coming into the suburbs much like cougars and coyotes are doing and will start snatching cats and dogs out of yards. Sooner or later they will grab some Congressman's or Senator's grandchild. Then what????

I talked to some of the locals hear and one man said he was driving in town and he thought it was a bunch of dogs runin on the rd but he pulled up closer and it was a pack of 4 timber wolf's he went on to tell the wife and myself that they are over run with wolves hear and also said that their were dogs being eaten right off their chains in town on regular basis

Yep we got to do it in WI, was a ton of fun. You'd just find singles or maybe pairs and them ship the dogs after them. Most ran like a coyote but we're pretty cagey. You'd set up on a trench and they'd skirt you even when the wind was in your favor.

Over in Sweden & other parts of Europe they do hunt wolves with hounds. While their wolves are not quite as big as the Gray wolves you have in Ontario & other parts of the upper Midwest & out West, they are still wolves & they run into the same problem everybody else has who hunt in Wolf country. Like Mike said they will station hunters around a block & shoot them when they come out. They have dogs killed just like we do while hunting other game by wolves. They also have major trouble with the Anti's & bunny huggers over there also. The main thing is, they do get to kill them. They are issued a quota for every area with a abundance of wolves. They also had a Website where you could monitor wolf activity to see where they were.
I lived in No. Mn. for 18 months.(two winters) They had Wolves that came into town all the time that killed pets. I will never, ever, complain about a La. winter again. lol

There is hardly no rds in armstrong and the logging rds are all grown in in most spots I think I'm going to try to return with a bag full of snares and snare wolf with the local trapper and teach him how to set snares he said he has never tried snares and that will bring the population down a bit . Someone up their said that some guys from the states had come up their to hunt wolfs he baited for them and shot 2 nice wolf and said they had seen a large black wolf and told the trapper that they would be able to get him 10.000 for it threw the proper chanel s being stuffed and everything I don't know if that is true but it sounds like more money than I ever got for a fur check

The wolves we got weighed between 65 to 95 lbs. Males were more and females less. A friend did trap one that was 120 but that was the biggest I've seen. No dogs were hurt at all when we hunted them. They mostly ran and really didn't bay. We'd put 3 to 5 dogs on them but never tried any tracks that were more than a pair. And preferably singles if we could find them.

You are assuming those politicians regard human life above wild life..I am not convinced they do.. if wolves did start eating politicians children it would end nepotism..
