Ran in to some longtime friends

Post by mark »

Was hunting yesterday morning and bumped into some old friends ( Johnny and Diane Young ) We visited for a bit and went our separate ways. I got to thinking afterwards about how long I have known them (45) years and that they would have to be at least in their mid 70,s. Johnny had told me he had been hunting everyday and I was thinking how amazing that was at his age. I got a text this morning saying that Johnny had passed earlier in the morning. RIP Johnny, and happy hunting. You will be missed!

Johnny was the first I seen with telemetry tracking collars. He was a true Houndsman and Friend and will be missed by many.

Dang Mark, remind me not to cut in on your hunting territory.

Does any one really know how old he was? because I was thinking he is into his eighties.

I always thought of him as a "godfather" of houndsmen, because it was impossible to see other houndsmen and not hear his name mentioned respectfully. Seems to me he was powerfully influential on a huge crop of young houndsmen.
He was quite a promoter also, and a good one to have on your side.

I sure am happy he got to hunt so long. That is amazing.

RIP Johnny.

I met Johnny when I was in high school about 1965 or 66 hunting bear with Leo Tennison in the Oregon coast Range. Johnny sure loved to bear hunt. Johnny was always active with hounds be it hunting, water races and bear drags or at Salem fighting for our right to hunt with hounds. We will miss him. Dewey

You guys remember the "What makes a houndsman? posts. Seems these letters answer that question perfectly. He must have been quite a man to have left such a mark on these people that have responded. You guys are lucky to have known such a person. My condolences to his family and friends.

RIP Johnny. I had the honor of meeting him a couple years ago at water trials. Then later while he was doing a freeze branding session. I learned a lot that day. Enjoyed a day chasing bear with him too. Really enjoyed the man.
