I'm in the market for some new boots and was hoping to hear from you all on your boot knowledge. I'm currently running on my second pair of kenetrek mountain guides. They fit well and are comfortable enough to follow dogs all day through the rocks. My hesitation in getting another pair is durability or lack thereof. Both pairs have lasted less than a full year each (wear them basically everyday), tread worn down to nothing and rubber rands peeling; NM rocks seem rough on everything, though. I am looking into Schee's Granite at the moment but haven't decided yet. Any other suggestions based on experience on the ground? I'm almost 100% hunting on foot. Thanks in advance

Lowa Tibets are similar to Kenetrek's but have a reputation for holding up better.

Have you looked into sending the kenetrek's back and having them rebuilt? I'm on my first pair but I'm very happy with them. I believe they will put new soles and rand on for $150

Wow, thats the first bad review of of Kenny's I've heard. I bought a pair 2 years ago and they are the best boots i have ever owned. I don't just wear them one or two weekends a year either. I put 60 straight days a year on them guiding elk hunts not to mention lion hunts and bear season. I can't wait to buy another pair! I haven't heard of Lowa Tibets but ill be googling them to check them out.

I would consider Whites. I also owned a pair of kennitracts. Durability was horrible did not last 60 days I sent them back twice to the company that was horrible to work with. If I knew how to post pictures I would post pictures. We can put 10-20 miles a day on boots sometimes in Rocky terrian. I owned a pair of shawnee's for about 30 days once they were pack boots but the company was excellent to work with they send me a full refund. If you go with whites do not go with Bob Souls they will not hold up in the rocks. I will try to post more later limited on time right now but I have gone through a lot of boots.

I have worn a lot of different boots over the years, and I will say they have gotten better than they use to be. I hate a really heavy boot, and I have worn some that by the end of the day you feel like you are dragging to anvils behind you. I wore White Packers for years but in in climate weather they are far from ideal although made to order they are comfortable and offer good support. I have several pair of Kenetreks that I like the High Bridger for warmer weather. It is light and comfortable and works pretty well most of the time paired with a good set of gaiters. They will wear out but they are not nearly as expensive and their mountain boots nor nearly as heavy. My wife and I both wear Kenetrek cowboy pacs when we are horseback in colder weather. They are lighter than most like Whites or Schnees, but you are not planning a lot of walking when you have a horse to ride.

My all around favorite however is the Schnee, mine have never let me down and they will rebuild them if they do,

I was looking at ordering a pair of the hunter 11 schnee but I see they don't have half sizes. I wear a 9.5 not a 9 or a 10. Wonder how tight they are?

I've had excellent luck with rocky square toed cowboy boots. I wear ummm all year in all wether in every terrain. I oil ummm once every other month and almost always get two to three years out of a pair. Love ummm.

Additional thoughts, I would consider buying from Cabela's if they carry what your looking for or something close. I have had some friends buy from them and they were able to return boots that they t thought did not live up to standards with no questions asked. There customer service is usually excellent. I will say that kennetracks mountain extreems out of the box fit as good as any boot so I would be interested in who makes a similar style boot out of better materials. Especially the water proof membrane. I know allot of the mentioned makers are now offering such a style boot. The negatives of my whites are they are custom built and fitr great but are very tight to try to get on, secondly the threads where the lower and upper leather meet on the inner ankle are coming undone from side sloping on steeip mountains. That being said I think there durability is better than most. I am going to try a pair of there smoke jumpers for summer hunting.

Has anyone looked into wesco shoes in scappoose oregon? They have been in business forever and most loggers in that area buy them.they are leather though and don't offer any of the more modern materials.

I would recommend the caBela miendle brand. I am a fat guy so I tend to wear out boots quicker than most. If they don't make it a year cabelas will warranty them.

I've been a wildland firefighter for a long time and guide in the off season. good boots are a must for what I do and I've tried just about all of them. You should look into scarpa boots. I've been in the same pair​for the past 3 seasons and love them

What model of scarpas have you had good luck with.

I have a pair of kenetreks for the last 5 seasons of wi bear hunting. Most boots don't last a year or two when they are wet every day. The stitches just fall part. Been pleased with mine but don't have any experience in the rocks.

The ones I have are the scarpa Fuego. They have lasted longer than any other boot I have ever used. They are very stiff do to how they are built but I love mine
