alpha 100 problems

hi new to the site having some trouble with the alpha when rn the dogs go over 800 metres away it seems to loose track of them im using the t5 on the 2.5 second update thanks in advance

On flat ground, line of site? Or over the top of steep nasty country, makes a big difference. If your loosing them in flat country you probably have an issue. VHF radio's over 5 watts will damage your gps and collars, i learned that one the hard way! lol

its on some hilly ground but now and then it puts up a question mark in flat ground inly for a few seconds and then it comes back on

they are hound cross running g dogs so i thought was it the speed they are shifting at or something
gps is new to me so maybe i will figure it out

there are a few big windmills in the s area and power cables so would that affect it?

I don't know about power lines and windmills. I get question marks off and on all the time too when my dogs get a ways out over a ridge or down in a deep drainage., id say its normal, for me anyways. 800 yards on flat ground, line of sight you should have em all the time id think.. There is no such thing as 800 yards of flat ground where I hunt so i really can't say! lol

X2 with Lee. My guess would be powerlines are a problem. I know the effect my truck radio. When you lose dogs on Alpha it's the radio part, not GPS part..

I use mine in flat, very very thick brush and pine forest with no ? for out to 1 mile using the long range rubber duck antenna.(up to 2 miles with magnetic roof mount)
There is a large power line that runs through 1area I hunt, doesn't seem to cause any problems. But your power lines and ele. Generating windmills may be different. I have tt10s and 15s but I don't think that would make any difference.
I'd lean toward there's something wrong with your unit.

it could be the hilly terrain will try it on some real flat open ground the weekend

Is that 800 with the standard antenna or with a truck antenna. If it's standard then it's not uncommon for that range with tougher terrain. If it's the long-range truck one then something else is going on. Should always get 1 mile plus and most times much further.

its with the standard antenna i think its on hilly terrain and the trash doing it
i noticed one collar does it more than the other also so there could be something up with that collar was on more open ground yesterday and not a problem until they went over 1.km
