Re: Moose hounds
Had a great conversation with Bear Hounder yesterday as he was on his way to hunt moose again. I have Laikas that are imported with moose and elk hunting in their pedigree so I am going to have a litter to send some pups his way. I look forward to hearing how he does hunting this weekend.

Re: Moose hounds
Hi guys we are still in armstrong the moose hunting is hard very hard the bush is full of blow down tree's and the moose are few and far between the hounds are doing the best they can we had one good chase on and it ended in the middle of every were I was glad to hear the dogs making music it was sweet lots of walking in thick blow down. we have found found a a place with some fresher tracks and moose scatt but it takes a truck ride then we get the hounds out the box and they run and I ride my 4 wheeler about 3 to 4 km then park the 4 wheeler and then walking with the hounds aproxamently 3to 5 km and the moose slip out the back door so I'm going to drag boat in that same trip and put in the lake and leave it their forever it will be hard but then I'll be able to boat the hounds to the far end of the lake leave some one at the end of the lake both ends then that is when the moose homicide should take place . at least be pushing them toward shooters and have one shooter covering the back door .sounds so easy but the moose don't seem to be following the instructions thanks we only get Internet hen we come into town 51 km away from town of armstrong station ont. Not much hear to trash on . Besides moose their is bear and fox lots of wolf's witch thank you jesus we have had no problems with and lynx witch we would love to trash on but have not yet and their's also lots of rabbits of witch the dogs have not chased thankfully any how keep looking up and I'm looking forward to seeing those pups in the spring Mr petty thanks again

Hi Chilcotin -chilcotin hillbilly wrote:Is is legal in Ontario? I know in BC you can't use dogs for moose or deer. You will find that hounds are not the choice breed for moose. Check out what David said, there are a lot of great moose dogs in Norway and Sweden.
Just a heads up, we are allowed to hunt moose and deer with dogs, but they have to be on the leash.. This is from the BC 2016-2018 regs"
Dogs
The use of dogs is permitted in the hunting of all game, but dogs must be on
a leash when used to hunt deer, elk, moose, mountain sheep, mountain goat and
caribou. Unleashed dogs may be used to hunt small game, lynx, bobcat, grizzly
bear, black bear or cougar. Any person may train dogs by allowing them, under
supervision, to pursue game birds from Aug 1-Apr 30.

Re: Moose hounds
I know you can hunt them with the dogs on leash but there is no future in that.

Re: Moose hounds
Here's a pic of the moose my son shot this fall the hounds got of to a slow starnt the 3 dogs I used last year all but refused to run a moose track they would go off on a fresh moose track go about 600 yards and then come across the rd with a bear every time we free cast them into heavy-duty moose country or put them on fresh moose tracks they would come out chasing or treeing a bear very nice complement for my bear hounds I was thrilled but the guy's that were paying me to outfit them for their 7 days only moose seson is only 7 daysthey were not impressed so I actually had to go home and get my yunger dogs and then it was game on and we ended killing this nice cow just after the young dogs had list the track in a lake it was a great week treeing bears and shooting a nice moose I almost feel guilty for getting paid to do this fun hunt but I got over that feeling as soon as the blue ticks started baying keep looking up
