the tree. This is where it would be handy for somebody in the huntin' party to be sportin' an Echo Timber Wolf chainsaw....pull, pull, pracka-pracka-pracka- buzz, buzzz, BUZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ, TIMBER!!!!
Now, if the treed animal were falling to my gun, I'd holler GERONIMO! even if he weren't' wearing a chute.
If your shot bear or lion is stuck in...

It would be ok if you own the tree I guess. It’s a problem if you don’t.
I like your “pracka pracka” though. I’ll have to remember that one because I never would have thought of it. I know exactly what sound you were talking about.

How might YOU deal with your quarry that is stuck in the tree YOU didn't own?
Could one reasonably expect their paid guide or outfitter to recover the animal?

Actually, now that I think of it, "bubb-bubb-bubb-hubba-hubba-bubb-bubb-bubb" sounds more realistic for an idling chainsaw cold started with the choke still out. I once saw "pracka-pracka" in a cartoon with a Harley-Davidson chopper and motorboats typically say, "burble, burble".

One can not reasonably expect their paid guide to do anything un-ethical, immoral, or illegal.JonBailey64 wrote:

If there is a legal way to take game home for you, they will do everything in their power to do it.

I'd have to ask my local game warden about what SHOULD be done if a killed animal were stuck in a tree top. Sometimes a second bang will knock them out....but if not....

I have heard of people breaking limbs with a high powered rifle. But I have never witnessed it.

I have seen limbs shot off many times. On a recent Wounded Warrior hunt the game wasn't moving good and several of us had worked hard to get these guys cats. We finally got a nice Tom treed in a large pine that was up high sitting on the biggest limb on the tree. The hunter shot the cat and it just went limp with both front legs draped over branches and the back legs hanging off each side of the large limb. He had shot it with a seventeen mag. The limb was large enough that I didn't think we could shoot it off without a large caliber gun. 11 shots later and my son had shot the limb in two. Our first mistake was using a seventeen. I have seen many cats hang up when using a seventeen or a 22 mag. They are so deadly on a bobcat that they often go limp without even a kick. A 22 long rifle is plenty deadly especially if using decent ammo. And you usually get a couple of kicks to at least get the cat out of the tree.

Yes, carry a big bore gun to cut the branch off the tree if need be.LarryBeggs wrote:I have seen limbs shot off many times. You don't want to shoot the animal too many times especially with a big bore or the pelt will be ruined. For bear or lion, my aim would be to get a good quality pelt out of the hunt. Not much fancy for lions myself, but a 500-pound blackie boar (vivid black, not cinnamon) for a swell rug!!

Been there, climb up the tree and push it out...

Rope it and dally on. Or climb
