Mule man I have seen this done by my father quite a few times...macedonia mule man wrote:A single barrel shot gun makes a pretty good cow horn if you need one and it’s at home. Find the sweet spot and it sounds good as a horn, a litter higher pitch but I’ve called a lot of dogs in with one.

Re: Hound horns??
I grew up around just about any kind of dog hunting and can’t remember many times I saw a cow horn used, people always used the gun barrel, I bought the first one that was in my family as far as I know of. It came from Bill Boatman about 1961. Really good horn. Loaned it to a neighbor and he lost it in the woods. Really didn’t need another one, always had road access to my dogs. If they didn’t get picked up that hunt. Me or a hunting friend would get them the next day. If I couldn’t go the next day somebody that knew me was, no problem keeping up with dogs. Some did get killed by cars but that was a part of unsnapping a dog, he may never be seen again. Everyone helped people keep up with their dogs. Never knew there were anti dog hunters until about 20 yrs ago.
