This should clear things up :roll:

Direct from our regulations;

Hunt & Hunting; includes shooting at, attracting, searching for, chasing, pursuing, following after or on the trail of, stalking or lying in wait for wildlife or attempting to do any of those things, whether or not the wildlife is then or subsequently wounded, killed or captured;
A) with intention to capture the wildlife
B)while in possession of a firearm or any other weapon.

Now I dont understand what the CO means by "pursuit season" we have a hunting season, Sept 8 - June 15, which entitles one to kill the cat if he wishes, but no "pursuit season" unless he is refering to the hunting season as a pursuit season. However you cant pursue them without a tag from what I understand, so how could a non res purchase a tag right ? he cant.

A BC resident can apply for a "permit to accompany" for a non BC resident but that person must be a resident somewhere else in Canada.
If they resident wishes to have a NON canadian resident accompany him it must be a direct relative or relative by marriage.

JCB67 - I also have a couple of Camerons that "eat lions for lunch" and I don't see much in the way of possitive remarks on here in the way of Camerons. Could you tell me how yours is bred? Did he come from Del or someone else? Is he cold nosed,fast on track ect.?

I just sent in another email inquiry--asking them how they define "capture," and whether treeing a lion is considered "capturing" it. And I'll find out what the officer meant by "tricky" too. I'll also verify that a nonresident includes those from the U.S. and not just out of staters. Good tips guys. :wink:

there are pusuit seasons in the okanogan and koots. Pursuit only.

I just learned that, being in region 1 the pursuit thing was new to me as we don't have that.

I really appreciate all the tips as to how to read the regulations, or who I should call to verify. But my actual question was whether anyone knew of a good spot to hunt in BC--specifically in Region 4. Any info. would help, whether it's the name of a mountain, a road, a range, or a general area. Thanks.

if u want to go a little further north then creston there is a lot of cats.I always welcome the company. I have three blue tick pups to run this year.if u come to this area wait until december the snow can be sparse early on.also there are not a lot of cat hunters here.makes it quite in the bush

The expectation of US citizens and I would imagine it is the same in BC is "what a prudent person would believe". With that standard you would have a very good defense for your case if you were wrongly accused. However, you may beat the rap but not the ride and what a ride it would be, I can only guess. What you have is good, but If I may suggest another email to this person outlining where and how you plan on pursuing lions and see if that changes anything. Asking questions just enhances your position if someone goes wrong.

Then hunt with your buddies dogs, his old truck and a good lawyer's retainer in your pocket.

there are pusuit seasons in the okanogan and koots. Pursuit only.

Be aware their are pursuit only seasons due to poor cat numbers. I only average a run every 4 to 6 times out liveing in the southern okanogan.

I think you better do a little more research. If your doing something in B.C. that requires a hunting license your gonna need a guide. Your gonna cruise the back roades with a box full of hounds and a huntin license and not run into trouble with the CO'S.............OK. What are you gonna do if your dogs kill a kitten you didn't know was around?? Good luck.

Unfortunatly the Guide\Oufitter would also be very fast to blow the wistle on you. They're rough on resident hunters so I can only imagine what your situation would be like. (they don't want anyone out hunt'n "their" cats. Sad bud true)
