Looking at Plotts

Hello everyone, I am from Eastern TN and I am looking for some Plotts. My problem is I'm not sure what Plott I am wanting. We run as many hogs as we do bear so I would need a dog with some speed, grit, stamina and brains. I'm over not being able to run a 3 hour old track with cur dogs. I came here because I wanted to hear everyones input and give me some leads as to where I should look. I have visited as many websites as I can but would like some word of mouth from people that own and hunt their (the people selling them) dogs. Thanks for your time.

Greg Anderson in Show Low Az. Outstanding Plotts, all that you mentioned above and more. 928-532-3403 is his #. He doen't sugar coat much, but his dogs are the real deal and worth the effort to get one.

What line or strain of Plott's is Mr. Anderson breeding?

I have hunted with some Plott's that came from Mr. Anderson, but I thought he was buying dogs and training them.

Buddy, I don't think you could ever go wrong when you put a Pocahontas Plott on a track!! Regardless of what it is you're intending on hunting.

Right there in E. TN there's some possibly at your disposal. Check with Sourwood (Jason Bickford) here on this site. Or, go straight to the Pocahontas man himself, Mr. Gene Walker. You can go to his website www.PocahontasPlotts.com for more information.

You may have to wait a spell though, for those dogs are highly sought after!

Ole Greg Anderson, who was mentioned above had a littermate to my Magnum dog, they were out of Gene's Cody II dog. They didn't get much better than those two young dogs.
Nor does it get much better than a dog out of Cody II period. Greg had a chance to sell his. I had to bury mine, due to a Bear killig him.

Greg has his own line that he has been breeding for the past few years, Like Plott Proud said some came from Pocahontas and other breeders around the country, greg kept mixing and matching til he found some amazing crosses and has been reproducing them for a while now, they are all proven crosses and the pups seem to always turnout to his standards, which are high standards. Not sure where you heard he was only a trainer, he has been breeding dogs for quite a while now even before the plotts.

Well he sells all makes and models doesn't he. I was with the understanding that he buys dogs from breeder's, trains them, them sells. Larry you seem to know about Greg's program, how is his Plotts bred?

I AGREE WITH LARRY IF YOU TRY GREGS OGS YOU WILL NOT BE DISSATISFIED HE HAS A GREAT LINES OF DOGS AND EXPECTS MUCH OF THEM AND HE GETS IT.

Eugene Walkers line of plotts have been proven for generations. His kennel is pocahantos and is located in WV.

I have no experience with Eugene's dogs, I have talked several times but have not hunted with his dogs. Just for fun, how many of you have owned, not hunted, owned plotts that Greg has bred from his dogs?

I own two and wish I could get rid of everything else and get more! Just might get rid of a walker blue cross that is taking up space(not yours Mel

) He has centered most of em around Bloody Bill, I thinkthat is the one that Plott Proud is talking about, Bill Kenross owns him now. He breeds several direct sons, Cabo, Dirty Deeds, and Saki(not a Bloody Bill son) and goes back to bloody bill with several proven females. I have one Bloody Bill daughter and a Cabo son. He has a few other breeds running around as well. Last I talked to him he had picked up a couple walkers to throw in and hunt, and could very well have some other blood running around, he stands behind his dogs, not sure if you are questioning wether or not Greg breeds dogs, but I was at his house when my cabo pup was born, and have seen all of his main dogs on the chain, studs, females, and pups 3 mnths to 3 yrs old. He's the real deal.

Greg has the Outlaw big game plott kennel. He runs 95% plotts now, that he has been breeding for 3 to 4 generations. I would suggest if you are looking at getting dogs that do well on hogs and bears he would be a good one to go to. Call him and tell him what you are needing the dogs for and he will put the right dog in your hand. His top dog is out of a Pocahontas male and a Mike Cauley, Cajun breeding, female. Mike is a hog hunter in Louisana. The maybe 5% that are not plott are dogs out of Van Johnson's line. Over memorial day weekend my buddy and I caught a bear that someone else with different dogs couldn't tree. The dog that started it was a Greg Anderson bred female. After she started it, her and the other dogs treed it. I think that they have what it takes.

None the less all his dogs have to meet a high standard. If I can help you any pm me and we can talk.

Thanks everyone. A couple of questions about Gregs' breeding since several of you seem to own and like them if you don't mind.

What seems to be the average size (weight) of these dogs?

Are they easy to train (obedience speaking).

What is the going price of a pup?

I will give Greg a call in a few days but would like to have alittle better idea of what he has. I prefer a dog around 50-60 #s. I also like a dog with some intellegence. I live in TN and am not sure what the going rate on airline tickets are for pups from there to here would be so that is why I asked the price of pups. Again thanks for everyones time.

I am shipping two pups from chattanooga to albuquerque this friday... it cost 327 plus health certs and a crate.

Calland talk to him and see what he has available, the size you are after is about what he likes. Obedience is good too they are SMART! Gregs dogs will fetch a ball and catch one throen in the air, you really need to call him up and ask him about em, you won't get any indirect answers, thats for sure
