My 6 1/2 month old puppy caught a lion all by himself yesterday! Lion had crossed behind me in the daylight so I figured I’d see what tuff would do, he’s been making races and opening on track but I like to know wether they are just Chasing after the big dogs or actually working. Put him out and he went right to it, at about 500 yards out I was going to send the boys to help him but I heard him jump her so I let it play out and sure enough he treed and stayed there! I was proud of him but the boys in the box were very unpleased  I found a few bobcats on the next road we checked and they caught 1 in a little juniper tree and were really close to it in the tree so they got over it!https://youtube.com/shorts/b3XZTfHJ320?si=H4xBCFlIp5DGhXM0

Shoot guys, I’ve missed all kinds of good posts! Congrats on everything Joe!
How’s everyone been doing?
I’ve been down fighting the LA fires. And haven’t been home in over 2 weeks.

Rowdy, that Castaic fire is a couple miles from one of the spots where I ran my dogs and got the trail cam footage of bear and mountain lion. That area has burned a lot in the last 7 years or so.

We need a source of warmth out here, but not quite what you’ve been dealing with. That’s a bad situation. We’ve been getting a few hunts in. Got to watch some pretty good dog work with some really good friends. That’s what it’s all about.

HP, I didn’t make it to the Hughes fire, it was on Forest Service land and they didn’t request help my department. I was on the Hurst, Kenneth, Pallisades, Lilac and now I’m on the Border 2. This country would be some tough hunting! Were you hunting fox?

Law, did you get snow? I hear it’s pretty chilly out your way. It’s been in the 50’s-70’s here in Southern California. I’m ready to go home! Lol

We got snow but just enough to dust the ground heavy. I’m fine with that, lol. I bet you are ready to be home.

Take those hounds down there with ya, get some black and white paint and say they are Dalmatians  gotta be lions hauling ass away from those fires! Got a late start today, was around 10 below so I hung around the house till 9am. The boys had themselves a puma treed shortly after noon and my littlest pup around 5 months old made the race. Him and tuff were playing around but they both are coming along nicely!

Rowdy I used to hit a box canyon north of Castaic along the PCT, I just used to walk the jagd’s through there and they’d take ofF after whatever they smelled. Could’ve been fox, could’ve been some sort of feline creature, I do know it’s really steep so I didn’t get off the trail unless I had to. That’s really hound dog country in there.

There is a lot of cat sign there and I did find more than one dead deer throughout my adventures up there.

Man that’s crazy to see a fire like that, you just don’t think it could ever be like that! This was from a week or 2 ago, boys were having a blast lol https://youtube.com/shorts/apQIGzVsfXg? ... 8M9F7YgBL4

I knew I was going to have my situational awareness set on high that day, I was concerned an ember would start a fire where I was and trap me up there. The video going thru the burning houses is the road I drove to get up there. A buddy of mine was on that call and recorded that.
