Howdy from Texas

Post by Williams »

Howdy, I'm from San Angelo Tx and I've been hunting racoons with hounds for about a year and a half. The men I hunt with have a lot of experience hunting racoons with hounds. I have a five month old walker pup that I'm in the process of trying to making a coon dog. I would like to hunt with some men that run bobcats. If any of you guys live in Texas or even the eastern half of New Mexico and run cats I would appreciate the chance to watch and learn.

cat hunters

Post by briarpatch »

Williams, I am in north central Texas and do not know of any cat hunters around here. I believe there are some from your area especially on south and if you will inquire around you will probably find some of them. I understand the brush country of south and southwest Texas is loaded with cats.

Thank you. I'm pleased to find this web site and glad there are a few other Texans available to talk to. I would like to go hunt the mountains out west but with kids, gas and just getting started with hounds the only thing I can affford is to go to work. I am hoping to meet up with an old pro that would'nt mind showing a new hand some tricks.

I live just southwest of you at Menard. Who are you hunting with up there around San Angelo? It would not be my good buddies Kenneth Hemphill and Coby Hutheson by any chance? They are coon hunters and they have some nice Treeing Walker hounds. I used to hunt with them at least once a week on a ranch about half way between us. Gas has gotten so high that I am hunting a little closer to the house. I have also been trying to find a few more cats and Kenneth and Coby like the coons.
There is a fellow up there in San Angelo by the name of Mike Adams who was trying to put together a few bobcat hounds. I have not talked with him in sometime but he was doing some hunting, primarily NW of town I think.
Yeah, the Brush Country is full of spotted kittys. Got a call from a buddy last week and they caught 5 cats the Sat. before last while hunting on a ranch a Dilley. Heck, I may have to hunt three months around here to find 5 bobcats and when I do, I may have to trail them for an hour to get them jumped. If they hit a cold track down there, they call their dogs offf and go down the road another couple hundred yards and strike a hot one. I have hunted down there for many years and rarely remember my dogs trailing for over 15 minutes.
Good luck with the pup.
Adios,
Gary

Gary,

Yes sir I hunt with Kenneth and Cody. They are good guys and I enjoy hunting with them alot. A buddy of mine named Karcher used to hunt with them and he introduced us over a year ago now. Kenneth got me into the coon hunting and I've got a 5 month old walker pup we are getting ready to hunt. Sorry it took me so long to reply. I get busy and forget about the computer. Maybe I'll run into sometime.
