Bobcat Question

Post by wablkandtan »

Just wondering if the same cats you see in the winter will still be in the same area. Also what is the average territory for a tom (Bobcat). Saw alot of tracks this winter snowmobiling and just wondering if there still there or if they move down with the snow? thanks for any info.

You can bet unless there was a fire or a drastic change or alteration in the food supply, Mr. Cat is still there doing what he likes to do on a routine basis. Our studies have shown that females bobcats may range 10 square miles but usually have a nucleas within this range that they predominatly inhabit. Tom cats may cover several of these areas, and during peak breeding seasons who knows where they may go, at times a lot further than one would think. However they usually end up back in the same old digs.

All wildcats are a bit cryptic, and may go to ground if you will at times for several days and you think they have quit the country and the next thing you know they end up in Mancos Colorado attacking a lawnmower while a 12 year old attempts to do his appointed home work. Who can tell for sure what a cat will do?

Mike,
You said about all that needs to be said about that. I have been trapping cats for more years than many others, and like I said,,, You said it all. Here today, gone tomorrow. But he will be back.
