Just a question(not trying to start a pissing match)what is the most important quallity you look for in a bear dog?
for my self i like brains, a smart dog one that can use his head a little seem to put up a few more bears.
what about every body else?

I think it is the drive in a dog and willingness to run to catch and fight the bear to hold it tell you get there. I've seen alot of dogs which love to trail but don't care if they ever catch up to the bear. Then I've seen dogs that will run and tree the pop-ups but if the bear fuzz's up they quite and head back to the truck.

tenacity. there will be a start-there will be a finish- but what happens between? no matter how bad or how hard the bear is to tree, they will stick and keep on sticking til its in the tree.
i dont mean just trailin the bear, jumpin him, and standin back 20 yards booger barkin all scared. im talkin jumpin the bear and putin on the squeeze, pressure him enough to make him tree.
i cant honestly say what one single quality is most important. if bred right all the qualities will shine through onto the pups that eventually get their chance to start and eventualy stop bears.
