I was just given a year old Red Bone female. Had her out this moring on a roll cage, and she fired up great, on the gorund then I put the cage in a tree and she went to treein, feet on the tree and sitting barking while looking up too. It looks like she going to be a fun project dog, to see if I can make a cat, bear dog out of her. I like her desire and voice, so we will see.
So I have a couple of questions about Red Bones.
1) What are they typicaly known for ? hunting, and traits wise ?
2) What kind of speed do they normally have ?
3) When I see Reb Bones it seems they are normally hunted on Lions and every once in awhile you pictures of them on Bears, but are they bred to normally run Cats ? or do they make decent Bear, dogs too ?
Just curious about the breed as this is the first one I've actually seen, and now own. By how houndy her face is, with the big jowls, and long ears I would thinK she could posess a cold nose. At this point we will see gotta get her nose turned on and see what she can do.

I would say their known for their versitility. They will run any country. I've personally never seen or heard of a redbone getting ledged up.
The ones around here are actually known for their speed. Some guys even remark that my buddies dogs ( who is a redbone breeder ) are 2 fast.
I got lucky and got a real gritty redbone and he's soon 2 be my best bear dog wihtout a doubt. I will admitt i think other breeds are better on bear
but its all in the dog i say.
As far as the whole theory on ears and face leading 2 a cold nose, i'll leave that for a debate later.
I've owned every breed but a plott and will swear by my redbone.

Personally, I have owned quite a few Walkers all different ages and breeding (gave them all away within 3 months of having them. They are too spaztic for my taste.)
Had a few B&T, they were good coondogs.
Had a Bluetick, she wasn't much of a cat dog, but loved bear and coon.
Had a couple Plotts, (they lasted a total of a week, fighting idiots)
LOVE my REDBONES and REDBONE Crosses!!! I found a line of Redbones that are very versitile. They are used all over the country on everykind of game.
I say there is good and bad in every breed, but if you are looking for a beautiful hound with an excellent disposition that loves to hunt then I hope you find a Redbone that you will like.
Good luck

Redbones come with all different traits. I have two: one that far prefers bears and cats, and one that prefers coons. One is cold nosed, one medium nosed. One is very loud, one has an average mouth. One is incredibly fast but not too gritty, the other the opposite. Both are males, and one weighs 60 lbs, the other 75, The only thing they both have in common traitwise is that both are incredibly agile. The dopey one gets himself stuck in places that are dang hard to get to! The smarter one comes to get me and solve the problem. : )
