I agree also. All the dogs I presently own came from Ken Duncan and I have had others in the past from his bloodline. Very high percentage of his dogs make it on big game. People tend to make a mistake and assume that black and tans are all early starters. In my experience they are one of the later starting breeds, but in the long run make more consistent dogs. Good luck finding what your looking for. You also may want to contact Ken, he is a very honest man and will tell you more about this line than any of the rest of us know. His number is 801-876-3312
If I can help in any other way feel free to PM me.

As long as they're out there's still a chance!

Rigdogs...good lookin black n tans.
Stacey I don't know much about this stuff, but i can tell you that anyone that has been in the hounds and sales them has to have good ones. I know Ken guarantees his dogs, but I think that is a hard thing to do. A dog can have all the breeding in the world and if he ends up with and idiot like me he can only accomplish so much sittin on a chain. Remember a good houndsmen can always make a good dog. Atleast get the hounds ability to come out. A bad houndsmen can ruin alot of dogs and never figure out what the problem is.
Good luck, and take care, poser

OOOOOOOOOOOh! CDH is going to jump you for bagging on his buddy. I have to agree though, I haven't seen or heard much good about the line as of lately. But also the guys who I've seen with them weren't much for hunters either. I know years ago they were as good of bear bred dogs as there were around, and Ken is a hell of a guy.

I've never bought a dog directly from Ken, but I have had some Duncan bred dogs pass through my kennel. The best dog I've ever owned was half Duncan dog. I do know that Ken has done a lot for houndsmen in the state of Utah over the years, probably more than anybody else. He's someone I have a lot of respect for.
CDH, in a different post you made the statement there was a few guys around that still have some bud hutchings bred dogs around. that is the lines im looking for. if you could get me a list of contacts that would help. i am very familar with the results that bloodline produces. thanks.

Stacey,
Price for pups is $250. We have a pup now that was trailing at 4-5 months old and treeing at 6 months. They are not generally considered early starting dogs though. Ken does guarantee his dogs. He's been breeding Black and Tans for over 40 years. You don't last that long if you turn out a crap line of dogs. Male/female is just personal preference.

Once you go black, you'll never go back! Duncan big game Black and Tans.

this is Ken Duncan if you are looking for some of the old dogs Bud Hutching's had his son Wayne may have as close as you can get to some of the old black dogs. I don't know his phone number sorry.
I hunted with Bud on bobcats lion, Bear and even got him to run a couple coon, we both had Black and tan's in the late 1970's and 1980's Bud bought several dogs from me, Pr Hutchings Duke out of my Pr Duncan's Satan Sue and Sandmans Hombre, I heard a lot of talk how cold nosed this dog was. at the time I had a litter mate called Rooster.
Buds Pr' Hutchings Lake Fork Oakie was out of my Dalton Creek Cocoa female He also got a couple other dogs which I think he gave to Kim and Kelly Christensen and later crossed back to them. Bud did not breed his dogs very much he had one cross known as the Oakie x Sue crosse which was a female he got out of Dave Glaziers Blue Simmer and Vanderwood's singing Sis which again Sis was out of some of my old A.K.C. dogs
You need to remember Bud was a hunter and knew how to train dogs and he hunted hard.
Most of Buds registered dogs were out of my dogs or went back to mine. But keep in mind that the owner of the female is known as the breeder!!
