breeder question
...so now I have a dillemma. My female Amira came into heat in the weekend saturday apparently and I did not get home to this morning (monday). She was in the pen with my two studs. If she did concieve is there a way to dna the pups to see which pup came from which stud? But there is a catch the studs are littermates.

If your bitch came into heat on Saturday she could have not been bred on Monday and produce a litter of pups. It takes at least 9 days for a bitch to be able to "Stand" for a Stud and concieve. If she came in over a week ago and was "Standing" on Saturday you have another problem. The litter could be sired by both Studs. This is were both stud dogs tie in a period of time that the bitch is in standing heat producing a litter of pups sired by two separate stud dogs . Happen to me with a running walker bitch and a R.W. stud and a Black Lab Stud . Good luck. Stuntman

Stuntman is absolutly correct. So if she was just coming in she was not settling condition. If that is not the case and she came into standing heat at this time she is not doubt bred by both of them. But they are littermates so rather than waste all that money on DNA before you see if any of them are worth hanging onto. If you hit on some that do a lot better than get a definitive test ran. I doubt if you are going to have pups however.

with her last two heat cycles she had silent heats and she is having another one. I knew that because she had bloody discharge and the studs were going haywire trying to get a peice. Also then and now the neighborhood mutts are having personal meetings with Mr. RimFire Shotshell.

I am not familiar with silent heats. The sign of the first bloody or rusty discharge signals that within 7-11 day the bitch will be ready to stand and accept a stud dog and conceive.
The old rule is a a week coming in a week in and a week going out totalinga 21 day cycle.
We see false heat and we also see false pregnancy in canines, however in generel a healthy dog that falls into the standing heat cycle if not locked away in a prison wil be bred by the stud dog of your choice or old Clem Butler's hald blind 11 year old setter from five miles down the road.
A time when you find out that dogs are certainly DOGS!!

Being from indian country I can tell you Clem has a blue heeler(AKA dingo) and God put them on earth to make sure dogs in general never go extinct.Mike Leonard wrote:a healthy dog that falls into the standing heat cycle if not locked away in a prison wil be bred by the stud dog of your choice or old Clem Butler's hald blind 11 year old setter from five miles down the road.

The reason I hunt this blood is a quote a friend gave me,"Your either making dust or your eating it."

Is funny you mention breeding through a fence. A friend of mine keeps all his dogs in seperate kennels and he doenst let them intermix in the yard or kennels. He told me he thinks one of his females is pregnant. He went to Utah deer hunting and when he got back he said she is definity big and looks like shes startingto get bigger tits. He told me he thinks maybe his male got her through the fence, because they were never together. LOL. I told him maybe its just a false pregnancy, but he swares shes getting huge, LOL.
Anyone ever hear of a dog doing it through the fence before, LOL I think thats just a funny thought. I guess its possible, but I've never heard of it happening before, LOL.
