Night?
Never hunted at night as it is illegal in Utah. Just curious. What time of day do you start striking when you hunt at night. We end up going early in the morning to take advantage of the cool temps. Night hunting would be pretty exciting I would imagine.

BGH,
If the temp is not to bad, I have struck bear all hours here in WV, but for evening hunting, we start out at about between 4 and 5 and can have a good strike, if the bear are moving early, that early. I have to say that these blackies are funny around here. On one mountain i use to hunt, I have struck bear at all hours of the day. Ussally after the middle of june, and where i was hunting, You could rig all night and not strike, but turn around the next eveing and get rig after rig. You just cant tell about them. but bear is right, for hot weather hunting, the night is the way to hunt around here. We have high humidity and it makes it tough to hunt durning the day, sometimes to hot at night, but we make our way through.
Good hunting

We hunt a lot at night this time of year. Makes for bad pictures but easier running. Can't seem to catch them no matter what. I would say it is time to go nocturnal though. Hard to figure them right now. Just put the miles on. 2 weeks ago hunting in the morning went out, rigged for 4-5 hours with nothing but a few wimpy strikes. The next morning we had a couple Rig shakers int he first hour. Caught one of those. Go figure. Same time of day and same conditions. Maybe just a little rain th through the second night before.
Chris,
My family is goin to the lake this weekend. If i go up and hunt friday night I'll let you know. Maybe we can work something out with your parents to get you picked up somewhere on the way to the lake on saturday. I'll look at the map.
That smiley dog must like to get in there and mix it up. Looks like they are putting them in the trees though. Glad to hear he is going ok.
