should I be worried about rabies?

I don't think you should be "worried" about rabies, but you should be aware of it. And always keep your dogs up to date on thier shots!! If you come across any questionable animal use gloves if you must handle it. Most animals that run and tree are not going to be rabid. But if you get one thats acting strange ie out in daylight and not running or stumbling in circles ect. you might want to just bury that one and not take the risk.

The rabies virus has to get into your system somehow so if you have any cuts ect think about wearing gloves while skinning. Also if you get bit or scratched by an animal it might be a good idea to get that animal tested, they only use the brain to test so you can just take the head in. One warning most states will want to quarantee your dogs if they come into contact with an animal that tests positive for rabies. Even though they are up to date on thier shots... I went through that last year because my dad thought he would be "helpful" and report a skunk that my dogs killed on our porch. I had to build a small pen for them and keep them in for 45 days...
