blood in urine

I took the dogs out today and when I let one of my dogs out of the truck he went over and started taking a piss. His piss was brownish/red colored. There was abviously alot of blood in his urine. Can anybody give me a heads up about what to do or what might be happening?

Not too sure, could be something with the kidneys, but I am sure the vet would know. :wink:

Could be caused by a number ot things......trauma, tumor, infection, clotting disorder, kidney disorder, etc.....

He needs to be seen by a vet, sooner rather than later.......

That's not good for a dog. Take it to the vet. Ma ybe Kidney failure or a bladder infection. Not good. But I wish the best of luckk to you and the dog.

Reagan get him to a vet. My clyde hound died within a day because I called a vet and made an appointment for the next day. He never even made it through the anistescia. Clyde had a kidney stone.

Thanks Ill get him right in. I'd hate to lose him. He acts great you would never think anything was wrong with him if you didnt see the blood but Ill take it seriously and get him looked at.

I just went through that same thing with my pilot dog. He had blood in his urine and, he started loosing weight fast. His gums became very red, I took him into the vet and had a blood and urine work up and everything came back normal other than a elevated white cell count, so the vet recommended x-rays and ultra sound, she found a mass in his intestine, we are currently treating the mass as infection with strong antibiotics and he has put some weight back on and it has only been a week. The reason it was odd is he acted like he felt great, but after a long race or a full day of hunting he could not keep up the last 3-4 miles.

thanks guys it looks like it must of have been a stone. I watched him through the night and when I got up to go hunting this morning he was hitting the end of his chain. I did what most people wouldnt do and took him hunting :shock:

He's one of those that you have a hard time leaving behind. I saw him urinate twice before I turned him out and no blood just bright yellow pee. Ive seen him urinate since and there doesnt appear to be any blood. I made sure he had plenty of water to drink as that will help with stones. The vet said if he doesnt have any more blood and he is acting ok then just watch him close and if it shows up again bring him in.

thanks again for those who responded and gave some input. I know that 'the vet will know' but many times if its serious the dog will show signs other than just the blood, this dog didnt. I find that many people on here can offer some good advice and its nice to know that you can get on here and get some good input from many of you when things may not be an emergency.
