Cats and bridges

Post by bigcat »

Has anyone ever seen a lion or bobcat cross a bridge of any length? I have seen cats that have walked a road for 4 miles, come to a 40 yd wide bridge, turn off the road , go down to the river , swim it, come back up the bank and hit the road and continue on its way. Haven't ever seen one set of tracks that have crossed a bridge yet? Any thoughts?
If it ain't broke-don't go and break it!!

I used to tree a cat on a fairly regular basis that used a bridge all the time (probably 40 yards long). You had to look close tho, because he would walk the top of the guard rail on top of the bridge. 8)

Yep bridges, flumes, and even had a bob walk the railroad track that was snowed on over a railroad bridge that was about 200 foot long. I was scared to lead a hound over the cross ties figuring the would fall thru. The hounds did fine but I get nervous on those things.

Mike, We have a rail road bridge out on the desert here. they tore the rail road out about 15 years ago when the lumber mills started failing and they left all the bridges for the first several years you could drive the tracks down thrue the desert. those cats would use those tracks like it was a highway. I always worried about my little dogs crossing those old tie bridges. most of the bridges are tore out now but it was good while it lasted.

I know of 6 or 7 bridgs that almost always have a cat track by/on them.
Most are less than 30' long.
