As long as there not hurting him enternally and he keeps passing them, he'll be fine. Its amazing sometimes what a dog will pick up and eat and still be able to pass through there system...... They should be able to x-ray him to see those sticks and chips and know if there still in his system or if hes over it or if any blockages occur.

No need to put down

If its ordinary sticks and wood chips, he will pass them eventually. The digestive fluids do evenutally soften them.
Occasionally, one will swallow a sharp piece and that will result in a puncture inside. This can be corrected with expensive surgery.
If the dog is passing anything, its not entirely blocked. If there's a puncture, there's likely to be blood in his stool.
If he's just dehydrated, the iv should fix the problem and there's no need to put him down. Just make sure he continues to drink.
One thing that helps dogs pass roughage that they shouldn't have eaten is rice. Feed him some plain rice with enough salt to keep him thirsty. That tends to be bulky and soft in the system and help push indigestibles through.
I once had a bloodhound that ate my sisters jacks set--the little metal things and the ball. They went right through his system without trouble, despite what the vet expected to be a major disaster.
Hounds are pretty tough. Make sure the dog has plenty of liquids and wait and see what happens.

Old Time Remedy.
Soak a small amount of dog food till soft.
Add a half a cup of lard.
Mix in.

It will slick up his whistle.

Ours regularly pass odds and ends like socks, washcloths, pieces of toys they've destroyed, once we even found Fred's missing leather collar complete with dog license tag after he did his morning business. He looked back at it as if to say, "So that's where that got to"

What a shame! I'm sorry to hear about that but it sounds like at that point there wouldn't be anything else you could do. I think it's called an intestinal prolapse or an intussusception something like that.
