I snuck out with my son yesterday for a couple hours found 2 tracks. one female and 1 young tom went back this morning to run which ever was easiest. Wind pickedup to gusts of 30 miles/hour as I arrived in the area, turned around and went home. The snow was drifting bad making tracks look old quick.

Not real sure about snow , but I have had dogs trail a lion in 50 mile an hr. winds on the dirt. It seems that lion scent is real heavy and the wind doesn"t blow it away too fast. Have also trailed em on the snow when the track was completly blown over and no sign of a track at all. I personally enjoy hunting much better in fair weather though. But if I wait for fair weather around here , I would never go.

50 mile an hr. winds
im sensitive about trees or limbs falling on my head --
dont think ive run hounds when it was that windy-
if i cant expect to hear my hounds at all . im likely to stay home-
ive got caught hunting in bad winds sometimes by accident -
sometimes can go to a different area where wind is less-
- strong winds definatley dont help -
when the tailgate drops

Yea I agree with you Pete . It sure ain"t much fun runnin in the wind . We found where a lion had killed an elk one evening and decided to run it the next morning. The wind was really howling the next morning but we checked it anyway and was surprised to see the dogs start it and go a couple miles on it . Strictly dry ground. As I get older I like warm sunny days on the dirt. I hunt in it , but don"t like the wind or snow.
