loosing cats

My bluetick is just over 2 years old. I've put him on 3 good bob tracks in the last few weeks. He's cold trailing awesome. Opens right up on the leash and sticks right to the track. I think he would of caught the last one but it jumped the river and he wouldn't cross with it. Kinda glad there. The problem is he has not caught one yet. Should this be something to worry about or will time prove to help him just by putting him on more and more tracks. I'm very happy with what he's doing but wish I were catching some of these cats.

I had another question as well. Should I release a younger dog with him that has not been on cats before or should I wait until he catches a cat on his own. I ran him with my old dog this past weekend and he left the old dog in the dust. There are some other cat hunters around but will not let me take my dog on there runs because its there cats and don't really want me to be catching cats. In fact they are now against each other because one guy ran a 40 pound cat but didn't catch and then another guy ran it the next day lol. I know its petty but that's how they are. Kinda leaves me and a few buddies on our own just starting out with no help. Any opinions and advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

I wouldnt worry to much about your bluetick sounds like he is learning what he needs to do.Just keep putting him on cat tracks is all you can do.

What Jason said, if he has the drive not having fur every race will not bother him. if he is getting them jumped thats half the battle, evenchually he will get them tricky buggers figured out.
Just keep after it and soon we will see his first cat pictured on here

That dang Blue dog ain't worth a hoot! Just bring him down by my place and drop him off I will take care of him ok? LOL!

Sounds like you have a winner my friend. Just stay out there and help him and vow to be half as tough as he is and you two will get some cats caught right soon.

Ben Lilly famous maybe most famous hound hunter never said this: Gosh it will be dark pretty soon I better get home. Or I can't get to them dogs it's too dang fer) Hey beleive me I ain't no Ben Lilly but if we all just Ben Lilly up a bit now and then and go the extra mile with them dogs I think they will be proud of us. JMO

We ran another cat on Wednesday. I'm pretty sure Utah jumped the cat. Just a small one. Made one good solid loop and sounded like he treed or had it in some ledge. He sounded good but then stopped. 10 minutes later he was across the next road on a different track and lost that one. How do I get my dog to stay on tree or stay on a cat in some ledges if he can't see it. He seems to get bored and leaves. I think that's what happened on Wednesday.

All you can do for know is stay as close to him as you can and when he hits tree get to him as quick as possible. If he can't see the cat but you are sure you can knock it out to him, let him tree as long as his attention span will let him and just when he is loosing interest knock it out. He will learn sooner or later that cat is coming out he just needs to stay there and tree till it does.
You can also work with this some at home with trainers, let him see it go up and out of site in a heavily limbed tree.

just like big game hunting you don't get the elk or deer every time you go out sooner than later you will have that bobcat in the tree

Well hopefully it all comes together. The conditions have been and still are terrible. Crust is a half inch thick now. Kinda getting worried its not going to get any better. Still got over a month left. Pray for new snow. Thanks for the help.

keep up the good work sounds like your dog is doing great a 2 yrs. keep running him with out any young dogs until he catches a few would hate to see a good start go bad. wont be long and you will have one treed.

Well we did track it for a quite a ways but there is no deffinitive answer from the tracks. It looked asthough he had the cat on the ground in a thicket in a few places.
