bobcat pelt preperation
Just wondering about the way a bobcats leg are skinned out, tubed or what

Montana Hounder; If you are going to sell your cats for fur the legs should be split from the foot to the elbow, then pined flat on a board or cardboard with the foot cut off. When turning the pelt leave the legs inside. Good luck Jack

If you are skinning for mounting they are usualy split down the back of the back legs, around the vent then up the belly to the neck. The front legs cut down the back of those too. Leave the toes on.
To skin to sell, do whats called a case skin. Start at the rear of the back legs and cut down to the vent, cut around the vent. Peel off the skin and just cut the skin above the feet then peel it down to the vent. On the tail split it up the underside and peel it off carfully. I like to hang it by the tendons on the heal at this point.
Then pull the fur off the body until you come to the front legs. Work around them and pull each front leg out till you have the skin peeled back between the elbow and foot cut the skin off there, leaving the front legs as a tube. Now continue pulling the skin til you come to the ears, cut them off close to the skull, leaving the ears attached to the skin. Pull some more til the eyes and cut again leaving the eye holes on the skin. Pull down to the nose and cut again leaving the nose on the skin.
Note you may have to cut here and there to peel the skin easyer but be carful to cut towards the meat not towards the hide.
Its best to do most of the fleshing right away while the hide is still wet. Comes off much easyer. Then put it on a strecher Flesh side out and dry it abit. Flesh it again to get anything you missed then turn it fur side out and let it dry. Oh and its a good idea to sew up any holes before streching so they don't get bigger. Also try to clean any blood off the fur, you will get alot more for nicer well cared for fur than you would for matted, holy ones
