Well it isn't everyday that a guy gets to experience something new so I had to get on here and tell my story. Me and a friend of mine took the dogs out yesterday morning for a bobcat hunt and luckily enough we managed to find a track to run. The snow conditions were pretty good and the terrain was pretty decent so we went ahead and dumped three hounds on it even though I usually prefer to just run one or two at the most. Well the dogs worked the track good and managed to get it jumped in about half an hour into the hunt. After about another half hour of running it jumped, things weren't looking so good. I could tell that this cat had no intentions of these hounds catching him. Luckily one of the dogs managed to break away from the pack and put enough heat on to get the cat put up. As we got closer to the locate we realized that instead of a tree they had it in a hole. My female dog weighs about 45 to 50lb's and managed to get back in the hole about 10 feet were she was face to face with the cat but was not brave enough or dumb enough to tie into it. After about another half hour of yelling and threatening to beat her she finally came out.
A little disappointed we decided to head out and see if we could find another track to run when I remembered Ezra!(aka briscoe darling). The wild man with the terriers. He always bragged about how these little guys would go in a hole and drag a bobcat right out. Well after a few phone calls and a couple hours later Ezra and a friend of his showed up with a couple of these little demons. I'll have to admit I was a little skeptical at first. The terriers were just a little cautious about going into this hole. But once they evaluated the situation things got wild. First it started out with a little whimpering, then a little barking, then screaming and growling and holy cow this cat came flying out right between our legs. The cat went about 30 ft. and ducked around the corner into another hole. Well that was all I needed to see. The cat was kinda small and not to good of coloring so we left it alone. But I am a believer now, those little guys really can run a bobcat out of a hole.
To top the day off we got to run another track at the end of the day and got it put up as well. It was also a small cat so we let it go for another day. Ross

Re: Fire in the hole!
Sounds fun well me and some friends are going to go here in about 10 min we are just getting a wet skift but still snowing a buddy of mine has a jaged (spelling) so if we run one into a hole maybe I'll see that for myself . But i hope not it's alot easier if they are in a tree but here in the Badlands it's about a 50/50 chance they will hole up. No wind right now so I'll enjoy the day no matter what. Wife coming from Spearfish sounds like you guys got a decent snow.
I can only imagine what it was really like......
lmaooo I woulda payed good money to see that cat come blowing out of that hole towards you two.

Re: Fire in the hole!
I heard that they were finally going to get to run lions with hounds in S.D.. I thought it was a reliable source but maybe not. With all the female lion the deer hunters are killing over there, the Game and Fish people better wise up or they're going to have the anti's coming down on them hard. Anyway, cool story about the terriers. Most of my cats end up in holes. I don't really want to kill them but if the terriers would run them out of the holes, at least I could see them.
