Truck sick pup

Post by houndcrzy »

:? Does any one have any tips on getting a 9 month old pup to not get sick when were on the road. He rides in my dog box and gets SICK bad. Does a guy just need to keep taking him on short drives or? Is this common with a dog that hasnt been hauled much? Thanks

Don't feed them for at least 4 hours before you plan on going.

I would not feed a dog before going out anyways, you could get gastric issues such as the stomach flipping.

when our girls were small my wife could not drive with them getting sick
i noticed it was al ways on a curvie roads, but never got sick with me it was how she was taking them curves. so if you are taking curves hard and a pup has a full belly he gets sick.try him on a straight road.

that reminds me.. I had a Pup that did that.. and Drooled.. man on man I mean a pile of Drool, in the box, when she stuck her head out of the box it would go down my pickup and just slobbery would cover the car behind me! ..

But apparently she got out over it after a few months..Or maybe it was a year I didn't pay attension??? Anyways just this weekend, I let her ride in the Front seat with me this weekend to go hunt with a friend, and didn't think twice about anything going wrong.

That dog has always been a really nervous dog.. For the longest time if I went hunting with someone that had a bell on there dog, this pup would start to drool buckets..She'll still get nervous around new dogs and allot of stimulation from new people or dog once in a while.. Mostly before the hunting starts.

I didn't do anything but just kept taking her and she got used to the ride.

Hopefully it will work out for you. Cleaning out the dog box everytime sucks..

My pup used to get car sick but she finally grew out of it I think around a year old. I was told some dogs never grow out of it but thankful mine finally did. She still gets nervous though when loading her up and that is annoying. I've also noticed she does alot better when she can stick her head out and see.
I have a friend though that gives her dog dramamine when going on a long trip because her dog never grew out of it. Ginger snaps sound alot cheaper though and I'm going to have to remember that little piece of advice!
