Fun weekend

Post by Buddyw »

Well, We got tired of the Snow around the house, pretty much were Locked out of any hunting around here unless we follow the snow plow. So we packed up our Bags and headed south to hunt with a friend for a couple days.

First day was about as bad as it gets.. Not a bark, not a smell.. Nothing, And we covered plenty of Ground that day. Wasn't sure if I was happy that my dogs was passing the bad stuff, or sad that we couldn't find a track.

The next day we had a nice Rig, Ended up with a good race. Got around to the dogs and they had a Tree. I got in there and couldn't find the cat. Didn't spend allot of time looking.. walked out scratching my head wondering if it was hiding or the dogs screwed up..

Well the next was was a Pay day! Right off the bat we get a whine from the dogs, and look down and wouldn't you know it.. Just like Christmas! There was a Glowing over night Cat track walking down the road I'm already Figureing this was going to be easy, done!
Well. 40 minutes Later with our mutts, and pups running up and down the road like a bunch of damn Bird dogs. I was begining to re think my initial thought.

Don't ask me how, Miracle maybe.. but we.. (5 of Us Looking and the pack of Bird Dogs smelling) did manage to find a track off the road. From there on out the dog did a really nice job.

I got to listen to them trail it, In typical fashion I missed the Jumped race, but from the sounds of it, it was a Good Running cat and really put the circles on..

Bought the time I lug my Pregnant wife to a point to listen all the dogs shut up.. Slowly one by one they located and it was done.. finished..

Well after being at the tree for two hours..checking every branch and spot that a mouse could hid in I was starting to get worried. My buddy Don was going to climb the Tree.. So would could officially asses the situation, Of coarse I tell my dogs that it would be a good thing for Don to find a Cat, Because he might not invite us back if there isn't a Cat here.. :) About that time standing 50 yards from the action, I find a leg in a tree "Somewhere" around the Tree.

Don finds it too and the dogs are off the tree by 2 or 3 different Tree's, (Mental note.. that's wierd)

45 minutes later I find the Cat, grab the camera and poof the damn Cat jumped from the tree to another tree that we couldn't see it in.

I got the feeling that this cat has been dogged before..

4 jumped tree's later we it was done..

That was a Little different experience for me that I figured I'd share with you guys... I managed to get one photo of the cat jumping.. Although it's pretty blurry..

Here are a couple of the not so fun times this weekend.

I also should mention the part about looking for the Cat for 2 hours??I might have left out the part about crawling through Poision Oak..
That's just starting to soak in.. .

Plenty of washed out roads, timber across the roads.. etc..

sounds just like the day i had yesterday, got to the kitty tree and sat there under that dang tree for probably 40 min looking for that bobber my smokey and trixie dog was barking good like they could see it i about leashed up and just thought they false treed. well no sooner i started doing that, that cat stuck his head up out of the little pocket in the tree and out he went. but sounds like a good time to me and the cat was just there to top it off. nice job.

Don't know if you guy's have ever tried it but when I was out in Maine we treed a bobber that wouldn't show himself and the fella I was hunting with (Nelson Cole) had me stand back and watch while he pounded the tree with a stick (Just like you do for bear) and after the second whack the cat moved and I spotted him. I've tried it since with success.
