Thanks for the congrats. She said i could go as long as i didn't get all scratched up before the wedding photos. I said "I don't think they have Greenbriars down there." She is a good one.

i lived there for 2 years on the main island ( not the big island) the locals do hunt but hard to get in with them. What visitors see and the way the islands really are is 180 degrees away form one another.

I still hunted on a navy base ...I would check on the big island for a guide are none that I know of on Ohau

We are going to Ohau. My fiance's uncle is Cheif Mark Pitts there in the Navy. They've been there several years. There were a couple guys on here before the switch. I never talked to them. Just saw a few posts.

I was there this spring and talked to a guy that hunted hogs all of the time. He said there are more hogs than people on the big island. I wont to say it was like $500 for a guied trip but don't qote me on that.

If your into archery hunting theres good bowhunting action for wild spanish goats also, theres been a few shows lately on the hunting networks showcasing them and it looks to be alot of fun as well.

There use to be a bunch of hunters on Kuai. I was there in the late 80"s and I was writing quite a bit in Full Cry back then> I stopped in a little store over on the Princeville side and was asking for loose cut chewing tobbaco. ( use to chew Levi Garrett back then.) Well they finally found some old Days O work and some Mail Pouch that was old and dry and that was it so I cut some pinapple up in it and got it to working some. Anyway these guys pulled in there with a Nissan pickup really an old Datsin I think and it was just crammed full of hog dogs. Mostly pit crosses and a mean tore up looking bunch of dogs for sure. Well I strolled out there and was looking them over and thes two Poly or poly oriental cross fellas came out. Well they looked me over I was in Wranglers and boots and wearing a big straw western hat. They said you from the mainland I guess? I said yep New Mexico. Well boy they got all excited and asked me if I knew any of them bear and lion hunters over there. I told them I knew a few. They said do you think they would sell any bear dogs to us? I told them I figured they would if they would handle the shipping. Well finally we got introduced and oh boy they ran back to that truck and next thing you know they brought me two t-shirts with big old boar and hog dog fighting scenes and the name of their hunting group, and a real nice ball cap with a wild looking boar on it. Well they said they got Full Cry and now they wanted me to go hunting with them and they wanted me to sign some Full Cry Magazines for them. Well my last X-wife really threw a fit. ( Notice I said X). Here we come on a vacation and next thing I know you are trailing up cane rat killing feral cats and now you are going off into the jungle with these guys and what am I going to do? Well it wasn't going all that well as it was but I declined but I hooked them up with a guy who had some pretty tough bear dogs and I heard they got some ov er there. They told me they took hunters on the side but when they were not doing that they had catch dogs and they would go get them young hogs and tie them up and then feed them up good and sell them to the resort hotels for their cutomers when they cook them in the ground and have a Luah. I watched them guys cook them in the sand on those sheets of corrugated tin and covered with the palm leaves. Pretty good stuff if you don't let them hogs get too fat. They like that fat but I like em a little more lean. I was telling them about pit BBQ with mesquite and dry rub. Boy they said that sounded good but too much work. Hell too much work everytime they do one it is like a funeral and digging a grave and them exuming the body later. LOL!

That jungle is so thick over there and it rains every dang day an old open space hunter like me would be lost in the first ten minutes.

I hear ya hunter. I grew up doing thatdigging the pit staying up till late to put the pig in the pit. We had to do it, if not face the wrath of my dad and uncles. Rotisserre style is easier open pit is more entertaining.
