We have been out all threw out the season. The first day we went out we cut three tracks. Since then I have only found one old cat track. Do bobcats moved down into lower country when the snow gets deep? The places we have been going I have been told by several different people that during deer and elk season they see tons of tracks but now there is nothing in those areas. Any ideas or tips would be greatly appricated.
Thanks
Having Trouble Finding Cats.

Re: Having Trouble Finding Cats.
not sure that this applies to oregon or not but here in maine since the snow became deep and well hard to travel in for everyone, i have not seen the tracks where we had earlier but upon doing the walks in the same areas the cats seem to be just limiting there movements and not moving across the roads and or trails so i have been just walking around these areas some to find these tracks

I hunt dry ground as much as possible with a good strike dog. In fact two good strike dogs and have to say this is the hardest year I have ever had finding a track. I'm not sure why but I have a good idea.

whell, one of the reasons don, is that the area that we live in is or was limited to hunt this year because of the snow. it concentrated the hunters to a few areas that was known to have cats. which made it harder to find a track because the ones that were didnt last too long due to a certain guide that we both know, and he doesnt let anything live unfortunately. that kinda hurts the population. sure wish that he would quit killing everything and let some live. that and i think that they are moving more in the early evenings.

Re: Having Trouble Finding Cats.
Guys,I hate hunting evenings and night time. But during the week I hunt 2-3 evenings after work,I usually hit the gravel about 4pm collar and crapout the dogs.Been hiting these cats between 4:30 AND 5:45PM[THAT'S my current call'er quits time]been finding quite few cats on the coast range most of them well educated, hard running, culvert diving little suckers.I hit at least 8 out of 10 off the box.
Earlier this season on the weekends we were hitting most of our tracks between 11am and 2pm these cats mix it up do to the weather and pressure it seems to me.One good thing is the last couple of toms I've taken are definatley pursueing females.
Until later Tim
