Post by nchunter »

Im wanting to possibly send a dog or two to a bear trainer to get started good next spring or summer. If anyone knows of any especially ones close to nc let me know. Could probably ship though.

we have a few out here but I would imagine you would have a bunch closer to you. Find an eastern state that has a spring and fall season if there are any.

I have trained and or hunted a few dogs for people in the past so just a few suggestions. Make sure the person you send them to hunts the same as you will hunt the dogs. If they only run hot tracks off baits, but you expect the dogs to rig and trail cold tracks you may not be happy. Do the dogs know their names and mind or do expect the trainer to teach them that, or do you even care if they mind. If you don't care if they mind is the trainer willing to deal with that, it usually means less training but more headaches for him. Do you want the dogs trained from scratch or are they already running bear and you just want them tuned up and in shape for when your season opens. They more you both understand about what you each expect the more likely you are to be satisfied. And finally most trainers will not and cannot tolerate a mean dog. Don't be insulted if you send a growly dog to somebody and he sends him back because he started a dogfight. If you sent a dog to somebody to train you wouldn't appreciate him getting chewed up or killed because the trainer was hunting him with somebody else hateful dog.
