Black and tan hit by car

My black and tan was hit by a car and his back leg went under the tire. It skinned out his back leg. I pulled the skin back around and took him to the vet.The dog did not seem to be hurt to bad and was trying to walk on the foot. There was not alot of blood loss outside but when he got inside it started bleeding harder. I thought they would just stich him up and give some meds to fight infection, but They had to remove one of the toes, and it took 2 different opperations to do it. the foot had to be wrapped for 2 months, and the dressings had to be changed every 3 days. The vet was not going to let me change it myself, said it had to be done just right. To tight and it would cut off blood, to loose and it would just fall off. 3 hours after he was home the dressing fell off. So I put it back on myself, for the rest of the time. He walks on the foot fine now like nothing happend, He is just missing a nail on the back foot.
