Mike Kemp hounds
Mike Kemp hounds
I was interested if anyone on here has any dogs from Mike Kemp and how they have done on bear and lion. Hard bay and tree dogs? How far along were they at the 7 to nine month pickup.

Re: Mike Kemp hounds
there is a man down here in south texas that bought a started dog from mike, mike shipped the dog to him and turned out the dog had some kind of spinal problem.the man called mike and told him about it and mike agreed to take the dog back and send him another wich he did promptly.the man was not happy with the new dog for whatever reason and sold him to another freind of mine.i got to hunt with the pup a few times before he was killed by a snake and i liked him,he was very gamey and wound tight.he made three bobcat trees in 100 plus degree heat.i am thinking about buying from mike soon myself.i hope this helps

Re: Mike Kemp hounds
I have a 3 1/2 yr old female that came from mike and I would have to say she is my best all around dog, I am very pleased with her. She trees hard she has a medium/cold nose and a great handler, just a pleasant dog to own and hunt.

Re: Mike Kemp hounds
Ranger, I just picked up my two pups (8mths old) a few days ago. They are great looking pups. I can tell when i arrived to Mikes that he was the real deal. He showed me all that was done to the pups as far as training this far along and gave me a lesson on how i should proceed. When i arrived home with the pups, right out of the truck i put them on a bobcat track and they were ready to go... These dogs are great in the kennel and handle very well for pups. They are very eager to hunt... I believe after meeting Mike that he would do all he could do to make sure that you get the pup that best matches up with your needs..
Just my opinion.....

Re: Mike Kemp hounds
Thanks for the responses. I was a little concerned about them being weak tree dogs because of the running dog in them but it does not seem to hurt in this line.
Re: Mike Kemp hounds
Ranger, I have not had a dog from Mike, but know several people who have. Most are somewhere on the spectrum of "satisfied" to "this is the best dog I ever hunted with". There is a lot of room on that scale, but it seems like he will work hard to make you happy. I do have a freind who has two from Mike, and I just wanted to mention that yes, one of them is not a strong tree dog. This does happen in a strain with a lot of running dog. Try to buy the dog from him... you wont be able to. And Mike has offered to take the dog back and replace it. The guy likes to complain about it but he wont let the dog out of his sight.
Re: Mike Kemp hounds
I had a male a few years ago that was a good tree dog. Did not have enough nose for my liking but was a good dog in all other areas
Re: Mike Kemp hounds
I sent him a deposit so I guess we will see in a year or so. I would still like to hear from others if there is any out there.

I have some Kemp dogs and have a friend that has some, and I think his dogs would
please anyone. In my opinion you will be hard pressed to find many dogs that will out
run them on a track.

Re: Mike Kemp hounds
John, I have heard many good things about you and your Kemp hounds. It is my understanding they make real good squirrel dogs and you kill 100's of squirrels a year. Just two questions for you Ace. Have you ever chased anything other than squirrels, and will they get rough on a mean squirrel?

Catch
I Think were getting a few red flags here that your either ready for a straight jacket or
need to lay off the crack. First I heard you sold all your plotts, and we all know you think
they make the ONLY bear dogs. Then I hear you went and bought some bloodhounds with
the fifty bucks you made off your plotts. Now your talking about squirrels. But on the
bright side you sure are going to look good leading those big bloodhounds around.
Now since you made the big change in breeds don't you think you should also change
your user name to just trail instead of catch? Well I will let you get back to your pipe.
