Trail Mouth which do you like ? Bawl mouth or chop mouth?

I'm with EVERLAST, longer bawl colder the track, shorter as it heats up, chop on tree. It's fun when you have a buddy along that doesn't hunt much and you can almost do play by play for them. And they think you're making it up, they'll say "you can't tell that just from that damn barking dog."

Hey Mike, I'm BY FAR not one of those guys that thinks they always know what's going on when the hounds are turned loose. I was just saying I get a kick out of it if you have a non houndsman with you that doesn't think you can tell when they jump a critter or tree it just by how they're barking.

Bawl on track, chop on tree, thats my preference but of course things don't always work out that way! Most of mine tend to bawl on a cold track and progressively change voice (towards a chop, squall or one that sounds like he is getting their ass kicked scream) as the track heats up. The problem with them is the older and wiser they get the tighter mouthed they get (especially after they jump) and sometimes you won't hear much barking for the last part of the race until you hear a locate or bay up. I run hounds because I like to hear a good race, but I guess these dogs might sometimes be smarter than I am. I do have a dog thats chop mouthed all the way and I think I heard someone else mention that they felt the chop mouthed dogs seemed to bark a bit more. I have kind of seen that to be true as well, sometimes it can be hard to figure what she's really doing, frustrating but she is a good old dog...the hubby always ask's 'what Fly doing?' To which my only reply can usually be 'barking!'
