One from the other day

Post by BlacktailStalker »

Put the dogs on a 12 hour old track today, just hoped for the best.
An hour later the dogs were split up out of hearing.
3 hours for us up to the "t" where they split, originally we all followed the main pack assuming they were on the cat but once they headed back down, 2 guys went one way after the pack of 4 dogs and we went back after the one (one of my pups for sure) and to look for the oldtimer that was m.i.a before we lost any elevation.
Snow was, deep, like 26-28"
We scraped and crawled for a good couple hours and coudnt hear him so we headed back down to the sled and as soon as we got to the bottom we could hear him hammering away, waaaaay bacl up at the top.
So right back up we went (initial climb up was 3 hours, now we're approaching 4+)
This time we did it in 2 hours and as we got closer we heard the old timer of the pack (Ben, who's nearly hoarse)

Sure enough we got up on this nasty outcrop and they had a juvenile treed.
I was really stoked, having my one pup Harlo treed solid for 6 hours and still going hard. I had my other pup in tow, who fell out of the race for some reason (I think because she was the last of 7 dogs she didnt smell the initial track maybe ? thoughts? and she's not a "me too" dog so came back down)
Anyways we wailed it with snowballs to get Daisey fired up and let her tree for a half hour and then the cat started coming down.
Harlo was below smelling some piss that the cat dumped and the cat damn near stepped on his back coming down when it bailed.

All 3 dogs were right on it and had it treed again 600 yards straight down below us.
On the way down I found a beauty fresh 6 pt roosevelt shed, nice bonus.

SO now we had the cat treed again. 2 of us hung out at the tree for a couple hourse and our other buddy went to meet up with the other 2.
Turns out they were waiting for us as they had a real nice female treed a couple kms away.

Good day aside from Harlo being a clown at the tree after a while and falling off a 20' ledge and now has a swollen foot.
IT was a long one, left the sled at 7 a.m and got back to the truck at 6 p.m.

Video of bailing cat (off regular camera, sound didnt come out right on photobucket)

Nice pictures, sounds like you had a great day. That picture with you holding the shed and the cat treed in the background is really cool.

Those dogs are beautiful, what is their breeding?
