Hog/Bear dog trying Bobcat?
Hello everyone I have been trying to figure out what to do with my walker dog i use on hogs and bear.Recently a bobcat ran in front of my bike during a hog hunt and I figured to see if my dog would run a bobcat,I turned loose and he ran for about 45 min. trying to catch the cat and he made a looze and I called him in. Next 6 times he runs longer and longer still has not treed one yet, should i keep letting him try or break him off them. I took my friend with me that has 2 nice varmint dogs to check him,and he is running true, believe me i was suspect at first, coyote, deer etc. kept checking him every time, seen the bobcat run out of the brush two different hunts with him trailing behind. The last few times we caught our dogs crossing the dirt road going into the neighbors property and there was the cat track, same cat it seems every time. Just wanted another opinion,thanks....Jason,northern california.

All depense on if you want to run cats or not , if you keep at it he will put enough pressure on one to make it tree.

Re: Hog/Bear dog trying Bobcat?
Thanks Wyatte, It's one of those things where I road the dog and he went from a straight hog/bear dog and it was cut and dry either game or no game and its time consuming when your trying to only catch a hog/bear and he starts a cat, but on the other hand when your done huntin and their is no hog or bear you have the option of possible running a cat.I have permission to hunt a couple of private ranches and I only have this issue when we hunt there. Thanks for your opinion, I made my decision, keep running him on cats I just have to be more track smart myself on when to let him continue on the cat track. There may be hope yet....Jason

Hey Bud,
If you think you might want to get a little more into the cat/fox hunting and want a dog that will tree either one by himself, see my ad in the classifieds titled "Walker male for sale central cali".........I'm asking a $1,000 for this dog and you could take him and try him. He won't do much good on the bear (he will strike them off of the box) but won't run them very hard. Had him on 1 hog about 2 months ago, he was there at the bay, doubt if he is any kind of a hard bay dog though. But will tree small game.
I've had this dog on here for sale for about a week and a half and had no replies, I'm a little surprised, as he is not a bad dog, just not a "fox dog" in my book which is what I run mostly.
Let me kow if you are interested.......

OK. Like I said, I don't have a problem with the guy trying this dog. He has been on way more fox and coon, but I have had him tree a cat or two by himself.
