Re: Okanogan permit holders
mw catdogs if you read throught that piece i wrote noy in just a couple days were all cats cought this has been over the whole lenght of the permits since they have begone and i never said all were females we treeed some nice toms some had collars we chose not to take them and yes I CAN TELL THE DIFFRENCE the female was taken in the chelan unit two years back if you spend someand where were these cats cought any where between tanasket and as farther west as you can go there was many days we doubled up on trees and but if you spend any ammount of time in these units and learn where the deer are you can usaly find some cats, i realy dont care if i kill one or not but this is how i look at this 1996 washington lost the use of hounds for bobcat cougar and bear i hunted before we lost this and killed some nice cougars prior to 96 but this is not a season to just hunt these cats are needing to be killed thats why we are able to run dogs once again i dont belive this will last the antis are fighting the fact that they intruduced this method so to the people who just want a cat i could care less what another person or persons do cause who knows how long this will last and perhaps as i look at it a female taste just as good as a male so mock me bitch about what i say but you me and any one else in wa pays the same for a license and a tag so use it as you wish

Hey NWcat maybe you should have your wife or one of your kids help you with your post so we could understand what you are trying to say. Periods do wonders!!!!!!!
Re: Okanogan permit holders
Hey Buzz,
I think what he is trying to say is that the anti hunters are pushing to close the cat hunting. Which means all the fun is coming to an end so lets kill them all as fast as we can.........starting with the FEMALES.

Re: Okanogan permit holders
The big picture is not only killing off the lion population for hunters, but allowing the antis ammo to say that by allowing hound hunting you are over killing the population when it should be able to suffice its self. When with a little game management in place you can have a healthy population with not to many in an area give houndsmen a chance to continue to run and harvest.

Re: Okanogan permit holders
In my opinion if we as hound hunters got together as a group and discussed a plan on when we would start taking these cougars, then everyone that got drawn for a permit in those area's could run these cats til feb. or mar. and then take one. This would be awesome for everyone including the hounds for which we are all interested in. It seems like NWC is only in it for himself. We should be sticking together as a small group that the anti's are focusing on. It seems to me that NWC has super dogs, because just about everytime that I have caught any cats, and have gotten my hounds from the tree they are wore out and have to be lifted into the dog box. To say that in 2 weeks time that you have caught 2 cats a day is stepping out on a limb. Good hunting til next time guys.

Re: Okanogan permit holders
Darvin said it best do you hold out for toms and kill 12 or do you shoot either and kill 6. I understand females are who have kittens, but with our system that is in place, it has little to no bearing on the population.. Last year in two units houndmen did a great job and took mostly toms, which reached the wdfw target objective. So this year since they have supposedly lowered the population, they cut the number of permits in half to keep the population level not declining.. I believe the two different tag application will be presented to the wildlife commissioners. You can put in for a pursuit tag or kill tag if you get a pursuit tag you can hunt all season. If you put in for the kill tag when the quota is filled you are done. The main problem i believe is not whether you kill a female or not, its all the tags that go to non-hound hunters.

Re: Okanogan permit holders
That's another good point. I know about 30 people who aren't hound hunters that put in for these tags that don't even own hounds. With that being said how many anti-hunters ae putting in and getting drawn and having a vet they know send in the paper work to get the tag and then throw it away. The game department needs to come up with a better way of drawing for these tags so that only hound hunters get drawn. On the other hand these hound guys are shooting themselves in the foot by having all their buddies put in for this tag so they can take them hunting. Were going to be in big trouble if we don't stick together.
Re: Okanogan permit holders
This winter my two partners and I each drew a permit in three different counties. We hunted two of the three counties treed 4 females and harvested no lions. We had a blast and would have hunted more if we had not had so much snow this winter. The quotas were filled in one county before we could hunt and the other county filled after we left two females to roam. And the last county we had a hard time reaching the woods do to snow.Treed 2 females in two trips. Just so you know we traveled an average of 6 hours each hunt and never killed a female...

Congrats on treeing the females and letting them walk! It would have been a rough winter to chase cats after the first of the year for sure! If you get a chance how about posting some photos, love to see some snarling cats.

Re: Okanogan permit holders
We do have that and now fish & game is looking into doing away with the quota of 1700 bears. Most every body is always a little nervous when F&G give's us something with out us havind to fight for it.
Re: Okanogan permit holders
Well hopefully it's a good thing and they don't just want a lot of bears killed so they can say that to many are getting killed and they now have to tighten it up.Someday I'm going to try and head down there a lot of guys I know go down once a year just to pusuit your bears. I'm more interested in the hogs, dad did it for many years.
