I drove to APA Breed Days

Post by bearbredplotts »

we had a great time along the way to north/south carolina. we met alot of good people there- alot of bear hunters too.
i put my 2 best dogs in the bear bay with alen smith's dog roscoe. there was a lot of good tight bay dogs on the bear. i wasnt too impressed with that only cuz it was a tame bear- not a wild real bear! a real bear woulda turned alot of dogs on. but we still had fun and got to see some good tight bay dogs.
the best part was bringing home my new dog. i think she'll do fine on bear.
we plan on goin there every year.

That must have been one long drive if you didnt fly. I have wanted to go to breed days but it is such a miserable long drive i have chose not too. Can you tell us a little more about what went on. Who won the bear and hog bay? Was there lots of dogs for sale? How did the night hunt go? Does anybody have the low down on the results?

It would be nice if we could put something together on the west coast similar to breed days. Maybe in Utah or Idaho.

i love road trips. we enjoyed the sights along the way.
The APA Board was having a meeting when i first got there on Thursday night.
We showed up Friday and met a bunch of people. I watched the bear treeing contest, the hog bay, the bear bay.
I dont know who won what events cause i got kinda bored watchin. There was more people than i can count on saturday for the bear event.
There was stands with vendors selling everything a houndsmen would ever want. I bought a Garmin Astro and an extra collar. I got that at a discount.
I met so many people, but the ones that stand out that i had great conversation was Alen/Janice Smith(we stayed with them) ,Hoke Rawlins, John Jackson, Rodney Burris, R.C. James, Jim Wanta, Randall Hodgedon. I met so many good people, but these are the ones that stand out the most.
i didnt stay for any night hunts, i did see some good lookin pups for sale, the results will probably be in the next APA article in Full Cry.
Yeah that would be cool if there was an event like that out on the west coast. everything starts with an idea!
