Yes, the only hound i have is a beagle walker cross. i think she is 1/4 walker. Great dog handles very well, runs a track well, and honest. She is alot of legs and is rocket fast, yet she is still stocky and can get in the thickest brair bushes as does a beagle. She does great on fox and rabbit, But if your looking for a coon dog... treeing is a big problem somtimes she will other times she wont. Some "old timers" that have seen her run rabbit and fox say she's a very good. i have ran her on few yotes but she hasn't showed me very much on them and i get worried about if she does catch one. This is just my dog and i'm not sure how her other littermates turned out. If you want i could give the fella i bought her from a shout and ask his opinion on the cross. Happy Hunting, Jon McMillan.

I seen one that was a real good coondog and that treed honest every time. Treed bobcat also in the early mornin hours at times also. I never seen that but was told that and you know how that goes but I believe this fella for he wasnt sellin shit and damn sure didnt need to try and impress me.

By the way, I like the part about the working collie. You better be careful, you might just accidentally breed you a dog that can do it all and do it well.

i knew a guy in quebec that crossed a beagle with what he said was an ugly blutic :D

- he bred several generations , all from those same dogs--

a freind of mine said they were bobcat machines :D

-i ran bear with him a few times- they were pretty good dogs

they did fight in dogbox pretty bad- ive never seen anybody ignore a dog fight in back of truck like he did-truck would just be vibrating and hed say , "theyll work it out " -then he would cuss that ugly blutick from way back :D

ive run a lot of crossbreeds on hare -- have had crossbred dogs from great to junk :D probably the same % as " pure bred "

all else equal --- a little longer legs always helps in deep snow :) i like a beagle X coonhound to run hare on deep snow-

ive had some i wasnt thrlled with-- i could see after that i got just about what i bred for --
easy to guess where you went wrong after

for example i bred a great bobcat/bear dog to my best beagle- the cat dog was a little on the titemouthed side -he had real speed - i only raised one pup and she could smoke a track --
but was too tite mouthed for a rabbit dog--and probably too small to make a bear dog--

its more the same as breeding purebred dogs , than its different --

dont expect dogs to be better just because they are crossbred --

or worse either - :)

well pete you have a valid point there with the whole deal about just cuz its crossbred it'll be a better dog
just kinda hoping for an improvement, as anyone does when they breed hunting dogs you know?
i know it wont happen right away and it takes a whole lotta time but hopefully with the right dogs chosen it could be a good thing
but like i said, its in the planning stage just trying to weigh it all out and figure every move before we take action
thanks for all the input guys i really appreciate it

there ya go- :D -thats the point i was trying to make--

they arent gonna be better just because of breed used , look for the traits you need - -

- know all you can about the dogs you cross , and all of their close family --

you can get the worse from both breeds as likely as you can get the best from both breeds

when breeding dogs that are alot different, you are more likely to get a wide range of traits in same litter

doesnt work like mixing paint --- kind of unpredictable --for instance , i bred a 15 inch beagle to a 25 inch foxhound ---i didnt get a litter of 20 inch pups ---- some pups were under 15 --

how can that be- ??
maybe because there was some 13 inch beagles behind the 15 inch i bred ---and 13 means that some could have been under 13 ,,,,- the biggest pup in litter was 20 inches -- too bad i didnt keep the right pup :(

maybe they just inherited more beagle than they did foxhound--

they are a 50% mix----- but seldom get a 50% mix of traits

nyways ,,that kind of thing --- ive had a lot of experience with that one ,

i was looking for rabbit dogs--- i kept the smaller pups -because i didnt want TOO big - usually that was a mistake
:(
sometimes the pups i kept were smaller or same size as the beagle i bred---

size or color is the easiest thing to breed for--- ive managed to mess that up :D

id do it again , :D

ive bred foxhounds with beardogs to get more speed---- that worked great --maybe i lost a little cold trailing ,lost a little tree power-
a few were great dogs --cold trailed---good enuff- , treed ,,good enuff

the extra speed was worth it- i would do it again -- ---use grittiest ,coldtrailingest and treeingest foxhounds you can find -- :D

i bred a little bulldog into some beardogs to get more grit--they were gritty , but i didnt catch any more bear with them , - lost speed, lost coldtrailing-lost endurance -- looking back,,, id been better off to not breed a beardog i didnt think was gritty enuff-
i wouldnt do it again -- what was i thinking . :D
