breaking dogs with scents

Post by coastrangecathunting »

I have never used scents to train a dog so what are your comments on breaking dogs with scents compared to the real thing.

I think if you take the bottle of "breaking scent" and jam it down the dogs throat it would be the only way that it would keep 'em from running off game.

Don't waste your time. Use TRI-TRONICS. Who knows what or how old these breaking scents are.

I think budmandan has already answered your question as well as it can be answered about break scents. I worked with that stuff a little ten or twelve years ago then bought myself a tri-tronic trashbreaker system. The scent breaker I haven't thought about in years, but when you mentioned it I had to laugh because of my failed attempts; the trashbreaker system, however, is something you can rely on if used properly........

good luck,

the reason i asked is a buddy of mine is using some sort of coyote scent . he sprays bruss on the side of the road ,roads his dogs by and shocks them . the funny thing is his dogs are broke broke and broke.im not going to do this because my luck who ever bottles the stuff put bobcat scent in the coyote bottle.

using scent to train and to break are a big waiste of time. the best way to train and break a dog is to hunt them consistantly on wanted game. or course a nice trashbreaker is helpful since we all know young dogs can't turn them deer down. cut good tracks and don't turn loose on strikes with no tracks. somedays you might not run anything but in the long run youll have better dogs and someday youll be able to trust a strike.
