How is the bloodhound at locating and treeing and holding the tree?

Don't expect to compensate the lack of tree by breeding to a tree dog strain it usually doesn't work out. Also I have hunted bloodhound crosses from walker, bluetick, redbone, black and tan and beleive it or not plott. Some were ok some were not it is still all about genetics. The Majestic Breed was started from these bloodhound crosses. Some are doing exceptionally well on big game but agains you must choose your breeder. I would be much more inclined if I had a good treeing bloodhound female to get ahold of Steve Morrow Salt Lick Majestics and ask his opinion. He knows what he is doing and turns out some very good big game dogs as well as coon dogs.

If she will tree good she might work

I never hunted one but know a few guys that have bloodhound crosses for lion. One was bloodhound/walker cross and he said she was as good of a lion hound as he ever owned. But where he hunts there are hardly any trees just cactus and rocks so most of the lions he catches were in the bluffs so it didnt matter if the dog treed.

Another friend bred some bloodhound cross. He said when he got the cross down to a 1/4 bloodhound they made the best cross and were some of the best lion hounds he ever had. He still breeds that line and even though the bloodhound in them is very little 1/16 or less, a lot of the pups still show bloodhound traits in apperance

You never know until you try so give er hell and let us know!!!

Thanks for your responses, first of all. Dixie is great at pickin the scent up and will follow it for many hours. She will tree the coons, but won't really bay for me, she just lets out a hitch-pitch whimper which i can still hear from a good ways away. I'm still tryin to train her to stick to 1 scent, which was why I was hoping on getting an older, started BnT to help her out.

By the way Mike, your Cat Scent Training article sounds great and I Can't wait to try out your pointers.
