Need Info.

Post by nightrider »

I had a twisted Fudge  Kill one of my best Cat & Bear Dogs,I caught him red handed and he pleaded Guilty.the puke even stole her collar before the cops got there. To top it off it was the one my Grand Kids picked. My problem is the Prosecuting Attorney thinks going for the cost of training of the Dog is the way to go. The trouble is I have never kept a record of the gas,dog food,Vet bills and other expenses that we all incur training up a Top Cat Dogs. Of the people I hunt with she was the best snow and bare ground dog among us. I sure need some feed back from you guys that have some experience in the cost of training, and any thoughts if it would be better to set a given value on top cat dogs. Also it is almost impossible to train one up now in Wash. If I have to do it again I'll have to travel out of state now. Thanks in advance for your thoughts................. Sam

If you set a given value on top cat dogs, you are going to top out somewhere around 6000.

Given the price of travel, fuel, dog food, licences, and aeverything included in training a dog, I bet you could pretty easy add up 10000 to 12000, and that is what I would do.

I am sorry for your los. I agree with your counselor becasue replacement value is a more accurate determination of actual material loss. This mean replacement value of what you had not what is on the market that might work.
Lets start.

Quality Prospect cat dog breeding: $500.00
Shipping expenses for 8 week old pup. $250.00 air or land cargo.
Quality dog feed per year for a 50 pound dog. $300.00
Shots, worming and vet. visits per year barring accidents. $300.00
Tri-Tronic e-collar Single dog unit $450.00
Tracking system one dog $1050.00
Scents, collars, leads, and dog box for transportation to training area. $500.
Weeklly training sessions in state without lodging meals and added gas $50.00
Training sessions for live game out of state. Fuel plus lodging, plus permits =?

You see how this adds up and taking into account that an average cat dog is not a fully trained canine until they are at least 3 years old, you can see what a bargain a top cat dog is that has a lot of years left in them for $6000.

So if you have to because of monthly income and payment constrains start over from scratch you can easily spend $10,000. and then have some other creep steal or shoot that one.

Training dogs up especially when you have to travel is a very expensive process with no guarantees. You may get another winner or you may get just another dog. It is very hard to put a price on an individual but if you have expert witnesses that can attest this dogs was of top caliber then you can state what it might cost to train another one without any guarantee it will be equal to your loss.

Good luck!

I just want to give you some insight to what can happen. I spend alot of my time in court. The unfortunate thing is that just because the judge awards you the money, making them pay it is another story. I hope you get every penny you deserve. If he doesn't pay eventually he will end up in jail for failure to pay fines. Good luck!

Thanks everyone, I will bounce all these thoughts off of the Prosecutor. He said the final amount will be up to the Judge, and then I could Sue him in civil court. Seems he has a hard time with the value of Cat dogs or any working dog. He probably would of let it slide if I hadn't done work for F&G a few times on problem Cats. Thanks again, Sam

Nightrider,

In order to get the judge to understand the value you need to put it in a prospective he can relate to, if it were me I would do my homework on police k-9 training and costs associatted with that and use it as a comparative. He will then relate and understand costs. Hope this helped. Good luck

Krk hunting I didn't think of it that way. But nightrider if you want info on police k9's I can help you or get you anything you need on the subject. I keep all my records on a k9 program. Just let me know.
