IKE

Post by MAC »

Ike I blame you partly (even though we never met) for getting me intrested in these hounds. I have both hound dog crazy videos and love reading your topics. You made the statement you hound dog days are winding down. For the love of the sport give us a hound dog crazy three.

MAC,

Well I ain't done yet as they say, but days like today sure make a guy wonder how much he has left for sure. I might sit down at the computer and put another video together, but it sounds like alot of work right now ha!

If my Hound Dog Crazy videos got you in this sport I'm not sure if I owe you an apology or should I be proud? I hope that you are enjoying the sport, but it is at tough one for sure and running alone at my age sometimes makes me wonder if it's smart......

Take today, up at 4:00 AM and didn't strike a track until around 8:00 AM after that rain we had yesterday and last night. I tried to start that track on a two or three bark rig, and had I not seen the track I wouldn't have stopped. Then I walked the dogs down the road three times and back to the truck before Ike would open on it; they sucked and blew the first two times but not one bark on the ground.........but when the track left that road in a 150 yards or so away they went.

Anyways, away they went and that was that, just got home and I've been going for twelve and one half hours........

think I'll need a beer tonight!

IKE,I agree the early mornings are always coming a little faster. If any apologies are due there are too the Mrs. from both of us. LOL.
Im going in the morning to give it hell. Takin a new houdsmen out. we have not caught the last two times out. so as they say 3rd time is a charm. This crazy guy his wife had a baby two days ago and he is still going. Wish i could get away with that. HA! But he is good company and a good man to hunt with. Maybe I will have some good pics tomorrow,
I know I'll have some more stories.
Thanks again for sharing your adventures. MAC

Mac,

Well I hope you two got out on a track today and put something in the tree as well. A little word of advice, praise each others dogs and let things slide off and not come between a friendship. Too often I've watched hard feeling develop between friends and relatives over who's dog did what--just rise above the petty aspect and nature of the sport and have fun!

Nothing like the sound of a good pack of hounds rolling down a track at first light, then to find them treed up in a canyon and hear that canyon ringing with their tree bark is surely what the old timers call "hound Music."

keep'em treed,

This is the best bit of advise I have heard on this forum for a long time for new comers and old timers and those of us in between.

Life is short and the time we spend in it hunting is shorter. To short to argue about who's dog did what. Just have fun while you can and appreciate every time you get to turn your dogs loose.

Oh we always blame each others dogs for everything! But of course its all in good sport! I have 2 really good hunting buddies, we usually bring about 9 dogs out bear hunting, try to rotate them as we have lots of bears and always strike something. Nothing like talking crap to the other guy in good sport. Always gives ya something to talk about. We just have fun with it because we are out there to catch bears and just have a good time doing it!

Guys it is funny you say that. My buddy has a dog and we were not sure what it could do.My best dog rigged and we dropped him with this "unknown dog" I'll be danged if my dog went blazed out running the track backwards and his dog went the other direction and treed the bear. But I could not be happier. :o  My buddies first bear and his dog caught it by himself. I remember my few firsts. what a feeling! This game is to fun to get wrapped up in all the crap. It takes the fun out of it.

Yeah the razzing between friends is still part of it.

Dennis, I'm dumber than most plott guys but not sure I follow... away they went and that was that... 12 hours later... ?

Did they catch the lion? I guess I'm not following... Sounds like a long day.

Well since you totally ignored my question if you caught the lion or not... I'll take that as a No.

I didn't catch one over the weekend either, oops, I mean we turned out and "away they went and that was that".... ;) ;)

Dennis,

You didn't leave me in the dark. Pretty easy to figure out actually.

When I read "away they went and that was that, 12 hours later we went home"... and there is no picture it's pretty easy to do the math.

And as for rubbing something in my face, uh I hate to rain on your parade but when you turn out and gather your dogs up 12 hours later and there is no lion...

That's called an elk race. ;) ;) I mean for guys like me, I know you don't run trash and you always catch but I don't and sometimes my dogs trash...

So didn't mean to bring you down to our level dude, we are just mere mortals.

Gotta tell you about last night, I went to feed my dogs and opened the kennel door and "away they went and that was that... 10 minutes later I loaded them back in and went home." It was a long day!!

Just thought you'd wanna know. :D :D

Well Dawg, " if you opened the kennel door and away they went. And in 10 minutes you had them all back in the truck loaded up, it must have been a " successful day " right ????
