Do you expect that these pups will be like a petite Gascon Saintongeois, only more hare minded? The Royer article looks interesting, I see some reference to very good scenting ability. I will have to take the time to translate it.

Yes I want my pups look like petit Gascon, but to hunt boar, pups's parents are very "rapprocheurs", when they hunt a cold track of boar they bark like wolf (ouuuu!!!! ouuuuu !!!). The morning we search a track of the night, and the afternoon we go with hounds, so maybe 10-15 hours track, we never hunt when it snow, we can hunt like this in summer and in winter, no problems. Here , the boar hunt is very difficult, if you haven't good hounds you can't find boar, they are very, very, very wildness, they eat only in the dark night and when the hunt come, they travel very long distance(10, 20 miles) in the night to find the more confident place. In the early saison, it's easy to find them !!!, but like every lands are hunting, this comes rapidly difficult !!! Of course, we have hounds. We love hunt boar, because in France, it's the animal that travel the more, it's the most intelligent. Unfortunately, we have no wolf to hunt, because wolf was a very difficult hunt, and we love this.

In the process of translating these pages I noticed that there is more on the Saintonge, at least page 22 is missing. Could you please post the missing pages from the Saintonge?

there is no chapter on the Gascon Saintongeois because when this book was write, Gascon Saintongeois didn't exist again (1889). But Gascon Saintongeois is a crossbreeding of Gascon with Saintonge

Thanks French. Does this book mention the Black and the White St. Hubert Bloodhound? How about the Saintonge Grey Hound?

I am very impressed with the Gascon Saintongeois pups I have. They are unlike anything in the US.

It speaks of 2 breeds of St Hubert, the white (Talbot), which has disappeared, certainly the ancestor of Gascon Saintongeois, and the black (Blood-Hounds) which means purebred, it exists today, but I can tell you that the current Blood-Hound, in general, is less good for hunting because it is not used for hunting. The current Gascons Saintongeois have a much better sense of smell to hunt. Today The high quality of St. Hubert is to keep changing, ie not changing animal or human when he track, the Gason Saintongeois too.

What do you know of the Great White Hounds of King and the St. Louis Greyhound?

My GS have an extremely fine nose and a superior ability to persevere on an old track. They are also very intelligent. These traits are just what are needed for old dryground lion tracks. These GS pups are very unique and unlike any hound I have seen. I want to learn all I can about this GS breed.

Thanks again Quentin. That was a good article on the Royers. I will read the pages you sent on the Blood-Hound.

- Also, I read: the temperment of a bloodhound was aggressive towards it's own kind as well as humans. Even in 1889 .... If a man was to breed up a strain of hounds from those ancestors, for say 30 years, that could explain why I see aggressive behavior in present times.

- What do hunters and breeders notice in the way of aggression from the Gascon Saintongeois and the Aregeois hounds?

Liontracker, if a GS is aggressive towards human, for no reason, you don't must keep this hound.
I've never had or seen a GS who was aggressive towards me or somebody (even beaten), sometimes maybe with other hounds, this's not worrying. Some are very jealous.
