Books on curs
Books on curs
I have had a few hounds in the past and read some good books on training hounds. I now have two kemmer stock curs that I am using for lions, bobcats, and coons. Does anyone know of any books that are geared toward training curs? To this point they have done a better job of training me rather than vice versa but they are turning out to be great dogs and I want to make the most out of them I can. Any help would be appreciated.
Re: Books on curs
Most curs have the hunt in them and training is very similar to a hounds with some slight difference's. 1 They hunt for you not themselves as much. 2 They are very sensitive to discipline 3 Most tree outstandingly 4 Some are weaker in the trailing department then a good hound and rely on fresh tracks or winding game. These are all averages as there are curs that don't fall into any of these categories. The one trait I appreciate in curs is they really bond with the owner and handle well. I have one book that deals with curs " not as we know them today" in depth and interestingly it's a very old book published in the early 1900's and I believe it's a third or fourth edition. I have only owned a few cur breeds mostly leopards and that was years ago so I am not current on them. But believe if you can impress the need to cold trail on them they will perform for you,If your hunting style is compatible.
